Digimon UP puts a modern idle RPG spin on the classic Digimon formula, combining pixel-art visuals and virtual-pet mechanics with automated battles, gacha systems, equipment, and character progression. Instead of managing a huge roster of active Digimon, you build around a Partner Digimon while strengthening it with Support Digimon and Skill Cards.
That makes the game relatively easy to pick up but surprisingly deep once its systems start opening up. Knowing what each system does and where your resources have the greatest impact can make a huge difference during your first few days. Here is everything new players need to know to make a strong start.
1. Understand the Core Progression Loop
The easiest way to understand Digimon UP is to think of it as several progression systems working together. Your Partner Digimon grows through training, feeding, and Digivolution. Support Digimon and Skill Cards expand your combat setup, while the Hologram Device provides equipment and Plugins to improve your stats.
Meanwhile, story stages unlock additional features and give you access to stronger progression options. The early game is less about finding one perfect upgrade and more about opening these systems in the right order.
2. Push Guide Quests First
The early Guide Quests introduce several of the game’s major systems and unlock additional capacity as you progress. The Skill Card system becomes available early, followed by Support Digimon and additional slots at later milestones.
Because of this, avoid spending too much time optimizing a roster before these systems are unlocked. Complete the introductory Guide Quests alongside your main-stage progress and let the game gradually expand your options.
3. Keep the Hologram Device Running
The Hologram Device is one of the foundations of equipment progression in Digimon UP. It uses Hologram Tickets to generate Equipment and Plugins, giving your Partner additional stats and helping increase Combat Power.
- Spend Your Hologram Tickets: Early in the game, there is little reason to let Hologram Tickets pile up. Using them gives you more chances to obtain useful equipment, while unwanted pieces can be sold or converted into additional resources. The system is designed around repeatedly generating and sorting gear rather than saving every ticket indefinitely.
- Unlock Auto-Roll: The Hologram Device’s Auto function becomes available when you challenge Stage 11. Once unlocked, it removes much of the tedium from processing equipment and lets you work through larger numbers of tickets much faster.
- Configure Auto-Sell: You will quickly accumulate equipment that is not worth keeping. Use the auto-sell settings to remove low-value gear and keep your inventory manageable. Higher-quality equipment can still be reviewed manually, especially when it has useful stats or Plugin slots.
- Upgrade the Device: Device upgrades improve the quality of future equipment, making them an important long-term investment. When you have enough Bits for a meaningful upgrade, the Device is generally a better investment than spending the currency elsewhere.
4. Choose Your Partner Digimon Carefully
Your Partner Digimon sits at the center of your account. Early in the game, you will choose a Partner line featuring familiar Digimon such as Agumon, Gabumon, and Veemon, along with other available options. 5. Feed Your Partner and Maintain the Farm
The virtual-pet side of Digimon UP is directly tied to progression. Your Partner’s development relies partly on resources produced through the Digi Farm/Meat Field system. You grow Digimeat, harvest it, and use it to feed your Partner and activate useful effects. Whenever you harvest, start another planting cycle when possible. Keeping the farm productive ensures that your Partner continues receiving the resources needed for growth.
6. Prioritize Digivolution
Levels are useful, but Digivolution is where your Partner’s power really accelerates. Your Partner progresses through this order:
- Baby – Child – Adult – Perfect – Mega
Each evolutionary milestone provides major improvements and can unlock additional passive abilities. As a result, your next Digivolution is a more meaningful target than squeezing a few extra levels out of your current form. When several upgrades compete for your attention, check which ones contribute toward your next evolution and prioritize those first.
7. Pick a Battle Type That Matches Your Build
Your Partner’s Battle Type affects its passive abilities and determines how different builds perform. The major branches include Attack, Defense, and SP-focused options, with further specializations such as Critical, Combo, Counter, Recovery, and Skill paths.
For many beginners, SP Recovery is a useful progression-oriented option because it improves sustainability during automated battles. That matters because you cannot manually react to every attack. A setup that survives consistently can outperform one with greater theoretical damage but weaker staying power. Your Battle Type can be changed later, although switching costs resources, so avoid changing paths repeatedly while you are still learning the game.
8. Build Your Support Digimon Team
Once the Support Digimon system opens, your Partner becomes part of a larger combat formation. Support Digimon provide additional stats and battle effects, eventually allowing you to create a full six-Digimon setup around your Partner.
The biggest beginner mistake is spreading upgrade materials across every unit you obtain. Instead, establish a dependable core group and invest in them consistently. For example, a high-rarity Support Digimon is attractive, but rarity alone does not determine how useful a unit is for your account.
Duplicate copies can also increase the potential of units you already own, meaning a well-developed lower-rarity Support Digimon can remain useful while your roster is still growing. Consider battle effects, passive bonuses, duplicate availability, team composition, and the content you’re currently struggling with. The strongest roster on paper is not automatically the strongest setup for your current needs.
9. Understand Skill Cards
Skill Cards provide your Partner with additional abilities and form another major part of your combat setup. More slots unlock as you progress, so your early goal is simply to equip useful cards and replace them as better options become available. Match cards to your problem: if enemies are surviving too long, prioritize damage. If your Partner is dying early, look for survivability and recovery.
Against bosses, single-target damage may be more useful than effects designed for clearing weaker groups. Because combat is automated, your build needs to solve these problems before the fight starts.
10. Collect AFK Rewards Before They Cap
The idle system lets your account generate rewards while you are away, but accumulation is limited. Current progression systems cap idle rewards after eight hours, so leaving the game untouched for longer than that means losing potential income. These rewards provide useful resources such as Hologram Tickets, Bits, and other progression materials, making them one of the easiest sources of passive account growth.
11. Push the Main Stages
Story progression does more than increase your Combat Power. New stages unlock additional features, making stage progression one of the most efficient ways to expand your account. Important early milestones include:
- Stage 11: Hologram Device Auto becomes available.
- Stage 15: Additional Skill Card capacity.
- Stage 20: Additional Support Digimon capacity.
- Stage 30: Battle Terminal becomes available.
- Stage 35: Another Skill Card slot.
- Stage 40: Another Support slot and the Meat Field.
- Stage 50: Camp content becomes available.
Your exact pace will vary, but the general rule is straightforward: push the highest stage you can reliably clear.
12. Complete Daily Dungeons
Daily dungeons provide upgrade materials for your broader progression. Use available attempts before the reset, especially when the rewards match the Partner or team upgrades you are currently working toward. There is no need to over-optimize these modes early on. Their main value is providing a dependable source of materials.
13. Explore the Digital World
The Digital World is an exploration mode that uses actions such as Movement, Attacks, and Dashes. Instead of simply fighting through conventional stages, you move around a map and collect resources from different locations.
Rewards can include Training Tickets, summon-related items, Bits, and other useful materials. Prioritize locations that provide resources relevant to your current goals, especially Training Tickets and other valuable upgrade materials.
15. Join a Camp When It Unlocks
Camps function as the game’s guild-style social system. Once available, joining an active Camp gives you another layer of progression and access to additional activities and benefits. You do not need to spend hours managing a guild. Simply joining a functional Camp and participating in its available content is enough to make use of the system.
16. Don’t Waste Premium Currency Early
The temptation to spend every piece of premium currency immediately is strong in any gacha RPG. Before spending, consider what your account actually needs and whether the purchase improves your current setup.
Free tickets and other rewards also contribute to long-term summon progression, so not every banner needs to be treated as an emergency. A good beginner rule is: Spend to support your build, not simply because you have currency available.
17. Don’t Automatically Equip the Rarest Item
Higher rarity does not automatically make an item the best choice. A lower-rarity piece with useful stats can sometimes contribute more than a random high-rarity item that does not fit your setup. Check the actual effects before replacing equipment, particularly once you begin building around specific Skill Cards and Plugins.
A Simple Daily Routine for New Players
Once the main systems are unlocked, your daily routine can stay relatively short:
- Claim Idle Rewards: Collect AFK rewards before they reach the eight-hour cap.
- Check Production: Harvest the farm and start the next planting cycle.
- Spend Limited Resources: Use Hologram Tickets, daily dungeon attempts, and Digital World actions.
- Make Your Main Upgrade: Invest available materials into the Partner, Support team, equipment, or Hologram Device based on your current bottleneck.
- Test Your Progress: Push the main stage again and check whether the next milestone is within reach.
Digimon UP looks simple because its battles are largely automated, but the real depth comes from everything happening between those battles. The key for beginners is consistency without unnecessary micromanagement. Unlock the major features, build a focused team, spend resources where they solve your current bottleneck, and let the game’s idle systems work in the background. Once that foundation is in place, Digimon UP becomes much easier to manage.
