Clash of Clans Portal Pendant Guide: How to Unlock and Best Strategies

The Portal Pendant introduces a new tactical option to Clash of Clans, allowing the Minion Prince to pull nearby friendly units out of a dangerous situation and send them back into battle from another location. Released during the October 2026 Portal Panic Medal Event, this Epic Hero Equipment rewards players who know when to abandon an attack route and where to launch the next push.

Getting the Pendant is only the first step. Its real value comes from rescuing troops before a push collapses, repositioning your army around enemy defenses, and making the most of its healing and movement bonuses. Here’s how to unlock it, upgrade its ability, and incorporate it into your attack strategies.

1. What Is the Portal Pendant?

The Portal Pendant is an active Epic Equipment item exclusive to the Minion Prince. Activating it creates a portal that recalls the Prince and eligible friendly troops and Heroes within its area. Instead of losing those units when an attack goes wrong, you can return them to your deployment bar and choose a new location for their next deployment.

How the Recall Ability Works

The Pendant provides several benefits during an attack:

  • Troop Recall: Retrieves nearby friendly troops and Heroes within the portal’s radius, subject to its Recall Capacity.
  • Healing on Redeployment: Recalled units return with a portion of their health restored.
  • Temporary Speed Boost: Units gain a movement-speed boost after being deployed again.
  • Minion Prince Recovery: Activating the portal restores some of the Prince’s health.
  • Automatic Emergency Activation: If the Prince would otherwise suffer fatal damage, the Pendant can activate automatically to save him, provided the ability is still available.

There is one important limitation: Siege Machines cannot be recalled. Any Siege Machine caught in the portal’s area remains on the battlefield. The Pendant functions as both a recovery tool and a way to change your attack’s direction. Instead of continuing an unsuccessful push, you can retrieve eligible units and deploy them somewhere more favorable.

2. How to Unlock the Portal Pendant

The Portal Pendant is available through the Portal Panic Medal Event, which runs from October 8 to October 25, 2026. Although the event itself is open to players at Town Hall 6 and above, you must also have access to the Minion Prince to equip and use his Epic Equipment.

Step 1: Collect Sour Elixir

Attack Home Village bases in multiplayer battles and destroy buildings marked with Sour Elixir indicators. These targets contribute to your event progression. You can also collect the daily bonus from the Sour Elixir Fountain on the northwestern side of your village, which provides an additional 100 Sour Elixir per day.

Step 2: Advance Through the Event Track

Sour Elixir moves you through the event reward track, where milestone rewards include Rift Medals and other useful items. The Portal Pendant costs 3,100 Rift Medals in the Trader’s Event Shop. The free track provides enough medals to obtain it if you complete the required progression and reserve those medals for the equipment.

Step 3: Purchase It from the Trader

Open the Trader’s Event tab and exchange your Rift Medals for the Portal Pendant. Check the equipment’s listing before spending your currency to make sure you’re selecting the intended reward.

Important deadlines: Sour Elixir collection ends on October 25, 2026, at 08:00 UTC, while the Trader’s Event tab remains accessible until October 27, 2026, at 08:00 UTC. Finish earning your medals before the first deadline and complete your purchase before the second.

3. How to Upgrade the Portal Pendant

Like other Epic Equipment, the Portal Pendant uses Shiny, Glowy, and Starry Ores to improve its performance. It can be upgraded to Level 27, with higher levels requiring increasingly substantial resources and Blacksmith progression. Its upgrades improve four major aspects of the ability:

UPGRADE ATTRIBUTE EFFECT
Portal Radius Expands the area from which nearby units can be recalled
Recall Capacity Allows more eligible units to be retrieved
Redeployment Healing Restores a greater percentage of health to recalled units
Speed Boost Duration Extends the period during which redeployed units benefit from increased movement speed

Prioritize Major Upgrade Milestones

Every third level introduces a more substantial improvement to the ability, making Levels 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, and 27 important milestones. These levels improve the Pendant’s core mechanics, while the levels in between primarily increase the Minion Prince’s health-recovery statistics.

This creates a useful approach to spending Ores: evaluate what the next major milestone provides, then decide whether it is worth prioritizing over upgrades to your other Hero Equipment. Don’t invest in the Pendant simply to increase its level, aim for improvements that support the way you intend to use it in battle.

4. Best Portal Pendant Strategies

The Pendant works best when it changes the outcome of an attack rather than being activated automatically at the first sign of trouble. Its recall ability can preserve valuable troops, but redeployment still requires a sensible plan.

Strategy 1: Rescue Your Main Army

One of the Pendant’s strongest uses is extracting a group of troops before they are overwhelmed by concentrated defenses. Imagine your main force has entered the core of a base and is taking heavy damage from Inferno Towers, traps, or other defensive structures. If the attack is beginning to collapse, the Pendant can retrieve eligible units before they are destroyed.

You can then redeploy the recovered troops elsewhere rather than losing the entire investment. The ideal timing is early enough to save your army, but late enough that you’ve already gained value from its initial deployment.

Strategy 2: Change Your Attack Direction

The Pendant also makes it possible to begin an attack from one side of a village and then approach the remaining defenses from another direction. Start by sending your army toward an outer section of the base.

Use that push to clear buildings, expose key defenses, or draw out defending Clan Castle troops. Once you’ve created the opening you need, recall the eligible units and redeploy them toward a different route. This tactic is most useful when the original entry point has become too dangerous or when another section of the base offers a better path toward your objective.

Strategy 3: Save the Minion Prince During a Dangerous Push

The Pendant’s automatic activation can prevent the Minion Prince from being eliminated by fatal damage, provided the ability remains available. That makes it valuable when the Prince is exposed to concentrated fire or an unexpected threat.

However, don’t build your entire attack around the assumption that the automatic rescue will always be available. Plan your deployment as though the ability might need to be used manually, and treat the automatic effect as additional protection rather than your only escape route.

Strategy 4: Make the Most of the Redeployment Buff

Recalled troops return with partial healing and a temporary speed boost. This means the benefit is not limited to removing them from danger, it also helps them resume combat more effectively when sent back onto the battlefield.

Consider where those troops will land before triggering the portal. Redeploying them near a useful target or along a clearer route makes better use of their temporary movement advantage than sending them straight back into the same defensive trap.

Strategy 5: Plan Around Your Siege Machine

Because Siege Machines aren’t affected by the Pendant, their position and timing need to be considered separately. If your attack depends on a Siege Machine carrying Clan Castle reinforcements toward the center of a base, avoid recalling your surrounding force too early.

Otherwise, the Siege Machine may continue forward without the supporting troops that were meant to accompany it. Coordinate the recall with the rest of your attack so that the Siege Machine can finish its job while your redeployed army takes advantage of the opening.

5. Recommended Equipment Pairings

The Portal Pendant is an active ability, so your other Minion Prince Equipment should complement its rescue and repositioning role. Think about whether you need more consistent offensive power, additional durability, or a combination of both.

Portal Pendant + Dark Crown

  • Best for: A utility-focused setup with additional passive benefits.

Dark Crown provides passive bonuses that can complement the Pendant’s tactical purpose. While the Pendant gives you a way to recover and redirect your army, a passive equipment choice helps maintain the Prince’s contribution without requiring another ability activation. This pairing suits players who want the flexibility to use the portal when necessary while keeping a more consistent baseline setup for the rest of the attack.

Portal Pendant + Dark Orb

  • Best for: Players who want a more aggressive alternative.

Dark Orb offers a different combat approach, emphasizing the Prince’s direct offensive role. It can still be considered alongside the Pendant, but you should decide whether your attack benefits more from its offensive utility or from a setup focused on saving and repositioning units. These Equipment choices are not inherently incompatible. The decision comes down to how you want to use the Minion Prince and which combination fits your overall army strategy.

How to Choose Your Pairing

Use the Pendant when protecting troops and creating a second attack route are high priorities. If your army already survives comfortably and needs more direct offensive output, compare other equipment combinations before committing to a dedicated recall setup. The best combination is the one that solves a problem your army actually encounters, rather than one that looks strong on paper but rarely contributes to your attacks.

The Portal Pendant gives the Minion Prince a distinctive role in Clash of Clans: preserving an attack that might otherwise fail and giving eligible troops another chance from a different deployment point. Its usefulness depends on timing, portal coverage, and the quality of the plan you prepare for the second push. The most effective use of the Portal Pendant isn’t simply escaping a dangerous situation. It’s recognizing when an attack needs a new direction and using the portal to give your army another opportunity to succeed.
