Sword x Staff Map Guide – Treasure Chests, Regional Exploration, and Completion Tips

Exploration in Sword x Staff becomes much larger than the opening areas suggest. The game currently spans seven regions, each containing its own collection of Portals, landmarks, enemies, gathering points, Companions, Treasure Chests, and other activities. While following the main path will naturally uncover part of each map, players looking for treasure or higher exploration completion will need to search beyond the obvious routes.

This guide covers what to look for across Originisle, Verdantglade, Cinder Ridge, Aqualis, Loong Haven, Aethyris, and Hapadi, while also explaining how an external interactive map can make cleanup considerably easier.

In-Game Map vs. Interactive Map

Before hunting for treasure, it is important to separate Sword x Staff’s in-game map from community-made interactive maps.

The in-game map includes marker filters based on the region you are viewing. These categories are not identical everywhere. Originisle, for example, only displays the Voyage Obelisk as a selectable marker in its map interface, while Verdantglade includes considerably more categories such as Portals, Goddess Statues, Companions, Trial Stones, dungeons, Gates, resource deposits, and other landmarks.

An external interactive map (such as the excellent Sword x Staff interactive map hosted on lootandwaifus) can track additional objects that aren’t necessarily available through the same in-game filters. These include Treasure Chests, individual monsters, Ingredient Nodes, resource deposits, Companions, and other points of interest.

For normal progression, the in-game map is enough to understand the region and its major landmarks. The interactive map becomes much more valuable when you are specifically searching for missed treasure or trying to systematically clear everything.

Treasure Chests and Major Exploration Markers

Based on the current interactive map data, there are 552 marked Treasure Chests spread across the seven available regions. The amount rises quickly after Originisle, with later areas containing close to or above 100 chests each.

Region Portals Treasure Chests Companions Monsters
Originisle 4 4 5 17
Verdantglade 25 66 25 169
Cinder Ridge 32 88 23 237
Aqualis 34 93 32 249
Loong Haven 47 97 32 288
Aethyris 55 106 89 286
Hapadi 65 98 43 313

These totals are most useful as a completion reference rather than a route you need to follow exactly. If you have thoroughly explored a region but are still missing several chests, comparing your progress against the interactive map gives you a much narrower search area.

Originisle

Originisle is tiny compared with everything that follows, making it a good place to understand how Sword x Staff handles regional exploration.

The interactive map tracks only four Treasure Chests and four Portals here, alongside five Companions, a Voyage Obelisk, a Temple Ruin, six Grain Harvest locations, and 17 Monster markers.

Because the area is compact, Originisle is also one of the easiest regions to clean up before moving forward. Check the edges of each accessible section instead of simply following the route between objectives, and activate the Portals you encounter so returning for anything missed takes very little time.

Verdantglade

Verdantglade is where the scale changes considerably.

Its Treasure Chest count jumps to 66, with 25 Portals spread through a much broader region divided into numerous numbered Verdantglade areas. The external map also tracks Gates, Blockades, several dungeon types, Goddess Statues, Lost Goddess Statues, Monoliths, resource nodes, and plenty of monsters.

Trying to clear Verdantglade by wandering back and forth across the entire map is inefficient. It makes more sense to work through the numbered subareas one at a time, checking nearby side paths before moving into the next section.

Gates and Blockades are also worth remembering. If an apparently unexplored route cannot currently be reached, it may be tied to progression rather than something you overlooked.

Cinder Ridge

Cinder Ridge contains 88 Treasure Chests and 32 Portals, along with 237 marked monsters.

Its geography is more interconnected than Verdantglade, with lava channels and central pathways creating natural boundaries between different parts of the map. That makes it relatively easy to divide exploration into smaller loops instead of repeatedly crossing the entire region.

The outer edges deserve particular attention. The interactive map shows treasure and other points of interest extending well beyond the central routes, so simply moving between the numbered Cinder Ridge areas will not necessarily uncover everything.

Aqualis

Aqualis pushes the chest count to 93, with 34 Portals and 32 Companion locations.

The biggest consideration here is geography. Aqualis contains several separated sections, islands, waterways, and disconnected-looking areas, making fast travel much more important than it was in earlier regions.

Activate Portals whenever possible rather than leaving them for later. Once you begin cleaning up missed Treasure Chests or regional activities, being able to jump between isolated sections saves a considerable amount of backtracking.

Aqualis also contains multiple Gates and Blockades, so not every apparent gap in exploration necessarily means you missed an obvious path.

Loong Haven

Loong Haven contains 97 Treasure Chests, 47 Portals, and 288 Monster markers, making it one of the densest regions on the current map.

It also introduces additional tracked activities and resources, including an Acme Nexus, Joint Strike, and Gem Nodes alongside the more familiar statues, dungeons, resource deposits, and Companions.

The region stretches across several visually different zones and numerous numbered sections. Treat those divisions as your checklist. Clear one section, check its Treasure Chests and nearby Portals, and then move forward instead of attempting to remember dozens of unfinished locations at once.

Aethyris

Aethyris currently has the highest Treasure Chest count of any region shown on the interactive map: 106 chests.

It also contains 55 Portals and an unusually high 89 Companion markers. The map is fragmented across multiple islands and disconnected spaces, while additional activities such as Ruins of Chaos and Void Fissures further increase the number of things competing for attention.

This is a region where filtering the interactive map becomes especially useful. Displaying every available marker at once makes it difficult to distinguish individual chests from everything surrounding them.

If Treasure Chests are your priority, temporarily hide monsters, resources, Companions, and other activities and work through the remaining chest icons systematically.

Hapadi

Hapadi currently has 98 Treasure Chests, slightly fewer than Aethyris, but it leads the regions shown here with 65 Portals and 313 Monster markers.

Its layout is also divided into noticeably different clusters, including a separated northern section and a much larger central and southern area. That makes clearing individual sections before moving on particularly useful.

The large number of Portals should make later cleanup manageable, provided you activate them during your initial progression. Hapadi also contains plenty of gathering markers, including Gold Ore, Steel Ore, Sandstone, Gem Nodes, and Ingredient Nodes, so players farming materials can use the same interactive map to isolate those resources later.

How to Find Missing Treasure Chests

The simplest way to find the last few Treasure Chests is to stop displaying everything at the same time.

When using the external interactive map, disable the other categories and leave Treasure Chests visible. Portals can also remain enabled to help identify the fastest travel point near each missing chest.

Once the chests are finished, repeat the process with another category. Companions, statues, special activities, and gathering nodes are much easier to check individually than when hundreds of monster and resource icons are covering the same map.

A practical regional cleanup order is to activate Portals first, clear Treasure Chests by numbered subregion, investigate routes behind Gates or Blockades, finish Companions and regional landmarks, complete special activities, and only then sweep resource markers or remaining monsters if you need them.

Exploration Is Easier When You Clear as You Go

Sword x Staff’s later regions contain considerably more optional content than its opening suggests. Originisle has only four Treasure Chests, but that number climbs past 60 as soon as Verdantglade and eventually reaches more than 100 in Aethyris.

The easiest way to avoid a huge cleanup session later is to explore side routes while progressing, activate Portals whenever you encounter them, and periodically check the available regional markers on the in-game map.

When something is still missing, the external interactive map is the better completion tool. Filtering it down to a single category turns an overwhelming map full of overlapping icons into a manageable checklist, whether you’re searching for one last Treasure Chest or trying to finish an entire region.
