Struggling to handle massive zombie waves, powerful Gargantuars, or competitive Arena matches in Plants vs. Zombies 2? Tile Turnip can help you turn a carefully planned lawn into a devastating offensive setup. Unlocked by completing Far Future – Day 24, this support plant creates special Power Tiles that allow multiple plants to unleash their Plant Food abilities from a single activation.
The trick is choosing plants whose special attacks work well together. With the right combinations, you can transform large groups of zombies, deal heavy damage across multiple lanes, or generate extra Sun to expand your defenses.
Understanding Tile Turnip and Power Tiles
Tile Turnip doesn’t attack zombies directly. Instead, planting it creates a Power Tile beneath it, allowing you to link the Plant Food abilities of plants positioned on other Power Tiles.
When you give Plant Food to an eligible plant standing on a Power Tile, other plants on Power Tiles activate their own Plant Food effects simultaneously. This lets you multiply the impact of a single Plant Food leaf rather than activating every ability individually. However, every additional Tile Turnip placement becomes more expensive. You’ll need to balance your offensive setup against the amount of Sun available during a level.
Tile Turnip Sun Cost Breakdown
| PLACEMENT | SUN COST |
| First Tile Turnip | 0 |
| Second Tile Turnip | 250 |
| Third Tile Turnip | 500 |
| Fourth Tile Turnip | 1,000 |
| Fifth Tile Turnip | 2,000 |
| Sixth Tile Turnip | 4,000 |
| Seventh Tile Turnip | 8,000 |
After the initial free placement, the cost doubles each time. That escalation makes it difficult to fill the entire lawn with Power Tiles during ordinary levels.
Pro tip: Start with two to four Power Tiles and invest in more only when your Sun economy can support them. Primal Sunflower, Sun-shroom, and Twin Sunflower are useful choices for building up the resources needed to fund additional placements.
The Best Tile Turnip Combos in PvZ 2
These combinations focus on different goals, from controlling large zombie groups to defeating durable enemies and generating resources.
1. The Zombie-Clearing Combo: Imp Pear + Tile Turnip
- Best for: Arena, crowded levels, and high-level Endless Zone waves.
Imp Pear becomes very dangerous when several copies share Power Tiles. Its Plant Food ability randomly transforms five zombies on the lawn into Imps. When the ability is activated through a Tile Turnip setup, other Imp Pears on Power Tiles trigger their Plant Food effects as well.
With three or four Imp Pears positioned on separate Power Tiles, one Plant Food activation can transform a big portion of the zombie horde. The combination is especially useful against crowded waves because it reduces the threat posed by many enemies at once. Imps that subsequently eat an Imp Pear are destroyed and release stunning gas, adding another useful effect when the plants and zombies are positioned appropriately.
Recommended support: Power Lily or Imitater Power Lily can replenish your Plant Food supply, allowing you to repeat the strategy when their cooldowns permit.
2. The Heavy-Damage Combo: Laser Bean + Bowling Bulb
- Best for: High-health zombies, dense lanes, and boss encounters.
Laser Bean and Bowling Bulb offer two different ways to turn linked Plant Food abilities into concentrated damage.
- Laser Bean: Its Plant Food attack fires a powerful laser down the row; damaging zombies caught in its path. Place several Laser Beans on Power Tiles and activate one with Plant Food to unleash their attacks together, putting considerable pressure on enemies across multiple lanes.
- Bowling Bulb: This plant launches bouncing projectiles that can hit multiple targets. Activating several Bowling Bulbs through Power Tiles fills the battlefield with additional projectiles, helping you damage clusters of zombies and tougher enemies.
Both plants benefit from coordinated attacks, but the results depend on the enemies’ positions and durability. A synchronized volley can inflict heavy damage, although it doesn’t guarantee an instant kill against every Gargantuar or boss.
Strategy tip: Use defensive plants to keep dangerous zombies away from your offensive lineup, giving your Laser Beans and Bowling Bulbs more opportunities to land their attacks.
3. The Sun-Generating Setup: Primal Potato Mine + Sun Producers
- Best for: Building an early defense, preparing for later waves, and funding additional Power Tiles.
Primal Potato Mine provides an offensive Plant Food effect that creates two additional, fully armed copies on random available tiles. Pairing it with Sun-producing plants allows one Plant Food activation to deliver both offensive value and an economic boost. Here’s how to set it up:
- Plant Tile Turnip in the positions where you want to establish your Power Tiles.
- Place Primal Potato Mine and suitable Sun producers, such as Twin Sunflower or Sun-shroom, on separate Power Tiles.
- Wait until you’re ready to trigger the combination.
- Give Plant Food to the Primal Potato Mine on a Power Tile.
The Primal Potato Mine creates additional armed mines, while the Sun producers on Power Tiles activate their own Plant Food abilities. Twin Sunflower, for example, produces an immediate burst of Sun when fed Plant Food. This can help you reinforce your lawn and work toward the next Tile Turnip placement without sacrificing your entire turn to resource generation.
Important: Primal Potato Mine’s extra copies appear on random available tiles, so don’t rely on them landing in a particular lane or position.
4. The Multi-Lane Shadow Assault: Dusk Lobber + Moonflower
- Best for: Sustained splash damage and defending several lanes simultaneously.
Dusk Lobber launches explosive projectiles that damage zombies within a small area. When supported by Moonflower, it gains the benefits of a powered Shadow plant, allowing its regular attacks to cover neighboring lanes as well.
Tile Turnip adds another layer to this setup by linking the Plant Food abilities of several Dusk Lobbers positioned on Power Tiles. Feed Plant Food to one of them, and the others unleash their own special attacks, sending multiple explosive buds toward the zombie horde.
This arrangement is useful when enemies are advancing through multiple rows and you need to spread damage rather than focus everything on one target. For the best results, place Moonflowers where they can power your Shadow plants while reserving your Power Tiles for the plants whose Plant Food effects you want to synchronize. Adjust your arrangement to match the lane layout and incoming zombie waves.
Advanced Strategy: Building a Power Lily Cycle
Power Lily offers a way to replenish Plant Food without relying entirely on what a level provides. Combined with Tile Turnip, it can help you repeat powerful offensive combinations during longer encounters.
How to Set Up the Combo
- Establish your Power Tiles. Start with three or four, choosing positions that support your primary damage dealers or your preferred utility plants.
- Plant your offensive lineup. Imp Pear works well for transforming groups of enemies, while Laser Bean and Dusk Lobber offer different forms of damage.
- Save Plant Food for important waves. Avoid spending it on minor threats if a tougher group or boss is approaching.
- Use Power Lily when your supply runs low. Allow it to generate additional Plant Food, then activate a linked Plant Food effect when the next valuable opportunity appears.
- Repeat when resources allow. Keep an eye on cooldowns, available Sun, and the strength of incoming waves before committing to another round.
This is a repeatable resource strategy rather than a truly infinite loop. Power Lily needs time to recharge, Tile Turnip becomes increasingly expensive, and not every level gives you enough Sun or Plant Food to sustain repeated activations.

Tile Turnip can dramatically increase the value of Plant Food when you build your lawn around compatible abilities. You don’t need to cover every available square with Power Tiles to get good results. Start with a few well-positioned tiles, choose plants whose special attacks complement one another, and save your Plant Food for moments when triggering several abilities together can change the outcome of a wave.
