Porta Nubi Brings Foldable Puzzles to iPhone Duo This October 23

Porta Nubi is coming to iPhone and iPad on October 23, 2026, and iPhone Duo owners will have an unusual way to move through its puzzles. Close the phone, and you enter a cloud. Open it again, and you’re back outside, ready to inspect the arrangement around you.

Developed by Michael Temper of Tempuno, the game brings its light-based puzzles from Apple Vision Pro to mobile. Its folding controls give the Duo’s hinge a job beyond changing the screen size, while regular iPhone and iPad users can play too.

How Porta Nubi Uses the iPhone Duo’s Folding Screen

According to the official press kit, closing the device takes you into whichever cloud sits closest to the center of your view. That gives you a clear way to choose where you’ll go before you fold.

The controls also change with the phone’s position. Set it in Laptop pose and a virtual gamepad appears automatically. Hold it in Book pose and an adaptive tutorial sits alongside the puzzle, so you can follow the instructions as you work through a mechanic.

Across those positions, the toolbar and tabs adjust to the available space. You can see how it works in the iPhone Duo gameplay video on the official Porta Nubi press kit page.

The demonstration uses an iPhone Duo simulator. FoldHunt’s October 15 review of that footage describes two virtual sticks near the lower corners in the partially folded view, with the wider cloud arrangement visible when the device opens fully.

Guide Light Through Clouds, Mirrors, and Portals

Your objective is to send light from its source to the matching target. Clouds get in the way, so you cut openings that allow a beam to pass through. The route can extend in different directions, though, and a straight opening won’t solve every problem.

Once inside a cloud, you control portals that catch the light and send it onward. Mirrors, prisms, and moving elements add further obstacles as the puzzles become more involved. You’ll need to work out how those pieces connect before the beam can reach its destination.

That spatial setup gives you a reason to look around before making a move. Apple’s feature on the original game recommends checking puzzles from above and below, since a different angle can make a possible route easier to spot.

There’s a familiar influence behind that approach. Temper cited Portal and Blackbox as inspirations in his App Store creator profile. His starting idea was to guide sunlight into darkness, and clouds became the setting for that experiment.

Up to 60 Levels with Optional Paid Chapters

The updated press kit lists up to 60 playable levels and support for 33 languages. The clean visual style keeps the puzzle objects easy to pick out against the sky, while the challenges focus on spatial awareness and logic.

The mobile release will be free to download, with additional chapters available through in-app purchases. Announced US prices include $1.99 for Colors, $2.99 for Movements, and $4.99 each for Mirrors and Portals. Each chapter contains 10 levels, and a bundle of those four chapters is listed at $9.99.

You’ll need iOS 27.0 or later, according to the launch announcement, which lists availability across 173 countries and regions.

From Vision Pro Award Winner to Mobile Puzzle Game

Porta Nubi already has an award behind it. Apple named it Apple Vision Pro Game of the Year at the 2025 App Store Awards, with praise for how its puzzles use the headset’s surrounding environment.

In that original edition, players can catch a beam with one hand and project it from the other while inside a cloud. The Vision Pro trailer offers a look at that headset experience and the floating structures behind the puzzles.

For puzzle fans curious about Porta Nubi’s mobile arrival, the App Store page is the place to check at launch.
