How Builds Work in Once Human Isles of Abyss?

Isles of Abyss plays by its own progression rules, and they shape every build decision you make. Get these four points straight before you start crafting.

  • You start at max level – There is no leveling grind here. Tech drives everything instead, and you raise it by exploring, gathering, and clearing key challenges.
  • Your Blueprints and Mods come with you – Existing Blueprints and Mods enter the scenario as normal. However, your Tech level caps the gear rarity you can craft and how many Mod attributes stay active.
  • The Cradle stays offline – This scenario has no Cradle system. Builds that lean on Cradle bonuses will feel weaker, so plan around raw gear and Mods.
  • Heart of the Ocean is the prize currency – It drops from challenges, journey objectives, loot crates, treasure, and Voyager fights. You spend it to open challenge rewards, which feed your Mod collection.

In practice, your favorite loadout arrives at partial strength and grows as your Tech climbs. That makes the first few days about supply lines and a seaworthy ship, not min-maxing damage numbers.

The Five Regions of the Isles of Abyss and What They Feed Your Build

Each Isles of Abyss region has its own weather anomaly, and each one drops a resource your ship needs. Think of the map as a crafting chain, not just scenery.

Region Terrain Haywire Zone Special Resource Used For
Fragrant Cape Coconut groves, rocky shallows, grounded shipwrecks Starting zone Coastal supplies and shipwreck salvage Your first ship and early gear
Reefshadow Bay Cold tundra, reef cliffs, floating ice Mist of Deceit Mist of Deceit Wicks Cannonballs and electricity facilities
Misty Marsh Giant trees, toxic marsh, sunken ship caves Black Tide Black Tide Clots Diving items and water circulation facilities
Spring Valley Mangroves, swamps, waterfalls Time Rain Bottled Raindrops Water production, farming, and breeding facilities
Falling Ember Active volcano, lava fields, hot springs Skyfire Skyfire Gold and rare minerals Alloy ship structures and automated gathering

Small islands sit between the main ones, and they make handy stops for docking, resupply, and quick gathering runs. Haywire Zones also shift as the phases advance, so a route that worked in week one may need rethinking.

Once Human Ship Building Explained

Your ship is both a vehicle and a movable water territory. You build your first vessel in Build Mode. After that, Relocation or the summon vehicle shortcut drops it back into the water.

Hull Parts and Ship Shapes

Ship building uses dedicated parts: hull, gunwale, bow, deck, handrails, and bulwark. Each comes in square, triangular, sloped, and curved shapes, so you control the outline and the space on board.

Smaller hull, deck, and gunwale pieces, plus pillars of different heights, help you shape a tight bow or stern. Wood, iron, steel, and alloy variants then change the look of the finished vessel.

Save Your Ship Design Early

The water platform layout has its own save entry. Select the structures and facilities connected to the core deck and save the design. You can then preview and place it later.

Do this as soon as your ship feels right. A saved design turns a long rebuild into a few clicks, and it matters even more in RaidZone.

Propulsion and Handling

Propulsion climbs through four tiers as your Tech grows:

  1. Manual power for your very first hops along the coast.
  2. Sail power for longer trips without fuel worries.
  3. Fuel power, which Black Tide Fuel boosts by raising the Fuel Propeller’s speed cap.
  4. Electric drive, which pairs with a Generator whose Electricity cap also rises with Black Tide Fuel.

You can also fit Boosters and side-thruster steering gear. Both sharpen turning and acceleration, which helps a lot when you need to dodge tentacles or chase a fleeing Voyager.

Quality-of-Life Tools Worth Using

  • Auto Cruise: Mark a route on the map, and your ship sails it on its own while you sort your inventory.
  • On-board respawn: You can respawn on your ship, so a bad dive does not mean a long swim back.
  • Underwater teleport and cross-world return to ship: Both cut the dead time between diving, exploring, and resupplying.

Every Ship Cannon in Once Human Isles of Abyss

Ship cannons define what your vessel can fight, and new ones unlock as your Tech advances. Four more join the pool during Phase II.

Ship Cannon Best Use How You Get It
Harpoon Cannon Marine creatures; fast shots that pierce the water surface Tech (Basic and Elite)
Long Cannon Bonus damage against decks and other buildings Tech (Basic and Elite)
Rapid-fire Cannon Fast, accurate shots for Calamity Tower weakspots Tech (Basic and Elite)
Repeating Long Cannon Continuous fire for steady pressure Tech
Shotgun Turret Wide spread against enemy ships and patrol boats Tech (Basic and Elite)
Frost Cannon Slows targets, making chases easier Tech
Corrosion Cannon Raises the damage enemies take for follow-up hits Tech
Rocket Launcher Bursts of small projectiles for strong sustained output Phase II
Oil Drum Launcher Explodes on impact and sets the area on fire Phase II
Repeating Shotgun Turret Triple-burst turret that shreds Voyagers Phase II
Freezing Cannon Ice shells that freeze targets in place Phase II

Two extra tools round out your arsenal. The Ram handles close-range collisions, while the Naval Mine Launcher lets you set traps along a chase route.

While sailing, you swap between mounted cannons through the Wheel. Cannons with projectile drop also show a pre-aim line, which makes long-range shots far less of a guessing game.

Best Ship Builds for Once Human Isles of Abyss

There is no single best ship, because each activity tests a different job. We built these four setups around how the confirmed cannons, parts, and facilities fit each challenge. Exact costs and stats arrive with the launch patch, so treat them as starting blueprints.

Ship Build Best For Core Cannons Key Add-Ons
Coastal Skiff Early salvage and island hopping Harpoon Cannon Trawl Net, saved design
Tower Breaker Calamity Tower and Sea Calamity Zone Rapid-fire, Corrosion, Long Cannon Side-thrusters, Booster
Voyager Hunter Voyager ships and Phase II fleets Shotgun Turret, Frost Cannon, Ram Naval Mine Launcher, Booster
Abyssal Trawler Fishing, fuel, and steady production Harpoon Cannon Advanced Trawl, Tidal Cage, Drilling Well

The Coastal Skiff (Early Phase I)

Your first ship should be small, cheap, and ready fast. Strip Fragrant Cape’s coast and its abandoned ships for materials, then get something seaworthy before you worry about looks.

Mount a Harpoon Cannon once Tech allows, since sharks and leaping tuna are your first real threats and meals. Add a Trawl Net so every trip between islands brings in fish. Save the design the moment it floats properly.

The Tower Breaker (Calamity Tower Specialist)

Calamity Tower fights revolve around tentacles and exposed weakspots. The Rapid-fire Cannon is your main tool here, since its faster projectiles make weakspots far easier to hit.

Pair it with a Corrosion Cannon to raise the damage the boss takes during each opening. Keep a Long Cannon too, because some tentacles sit behind building protection, and the Long Cannon hits buildings harder.

Side-thruster steering gear earns its slot in the Phase II Abyss version. Waves, heavy fog, icebergs, and water tornadoes all interfere with your route while you line up shots.

The Voyager Hunter (Boarding Ship)

Voyagers come with stronger firepower, mixed crews, and naval mine blockades, and they grow tougher as the scenario goes on. Your goal is to wreck their key facilities, board the deck, and raid the hold.

The Shotgun Turret handles enemy ships and patrol boats, while the Frost Cannon stops slippery targets from escaping. The Ram finishes close-range brawls. In Phase II, swap in the Repeating Shotgun Turret, since it deals extremely high damage to Voyagers.

Phase II also brings Voyager fleets, where a giant Voyager leads several fanboats on patrol. Expect surprise raids mid-fight, so keep a Booster ready for clean exits.

The Abyssal Trawler (Production Ship)

This build turns your ship into a floating farm. The Advanced Trawl catches more fish and salvages surface supplies, and an Abundant Fishing Talisman pushes its efficiency further.

Drop a Tidal Cage in the water for steady fish breeding. The Advanced Tidal Cage shortens each breeding cycle. A Drilling Well pulls abyssal sea oil for production.

Keep a Harpoon Cannon mounted anyway. A Giant Squid can latch onto your hull and pin you in place. Focus fire on its tentacles to drive it off.

Best Character Builds and Mods for Isles of Abyss

Your ship does the heavy lifting at sea, but boarding, island raids, and the endgame still test your personal loadout. Two new armor Mods point toward the builds that fit this scenario best.

New Mod Slot Effect Build Fit
Precision Load Lower Body Long-range weakspot hits restore bullets Long-range weakspot builds
Turret Enhancement Gloves Raises damage from facilities you use Cannon and turret-focused builds

You can earn both by challenging The Sunken Lord. You can also spend Heart of the Ocean during the reward stage of Calamity Tower or The Sunken Lord.

Isles of Abyss Haywire Zone Survival Kits

Haywire Zones rewrite the rules of exploration, yet they also hold the resources your ship needs most. Pack the right counter before you sail in.

Haywire Zone Region The Threat Counter Items
Mist of Deceit Reefshadow Bay Lowers temperature; your view shrinks as your HP drops Mist Core Clarity Soup, Blaze Core Lantern
Black Tide Misty Marsh Deepens Stardust contamination; gathering drains Sanity Black Tide Protective Mask
Time Rain Spring Valley Speeds Energy and Hydration loss and wears down gear Time-Reverse Cookies, Time-Reverse Raincoat
Skyfire Falling Ember Meteors damage you and your buildings and heat the area Cooling Patch, All-Weather Stew

Each zone also has an upside if you play it smart:

  • Mist of Deceit: Keep your view wide by staying healthy, because a larger field of view earns better exploration rewards.
  • Black Tide: High Sanity lets you collect more Black Tide Clots. The tide also brings Stardust Ore and contaminated plants.
  • Time Rain: The rain speeds up crop and animal growth, both in the wild and in your territory. Stock up on supplies and farm through it.
  • Skyfire: Bigger meteors spawn Deviant guards and take longer to mine. Mining one fully cools the area back down.

Once Human Isles of Abyss Expansion – New Enemies and Endgame Bosses

New Enemies

  • Rosetta: Abyssal Iron Guard: Its diving helmet projects a steam field that keeps shielding nearby allies. Kill it first, and the whole fight gets easier.
  • Vulture: Drowning Light Apostle: Its lamp head changes color when it spots you, raising the damage it deals and takes. Trigger it, then burst it down fast.
  • Deviant: Abyssal Sea Kins: When one dies, its barnacles explode and heal nearby Deviants. Pull them apart and kill them one at a time.

Calamity Tower

The Calamity Tower grows with you. It starts as a solo story challenge, expands into team battles, and ends with the Abyss version in Phase II. Story clears also unlock new gear crafting.

Tentacles block lanes, summon reinforcements, heal, or share damage. Clear these support targets quickly, then focus fire whenever a weakspot opens. In the Abyss version, cores attack you directly, and Voyager reinforcements join the fight.

Calamity Nest

The Calamity Owl rules this land stronghold. It summons enemies with its song and presses you with sound waves and area attacks.

Watch for the Revenge mark. The marked player becomes the enemy’s chase target but also gets a key chance to hit the alpha. On harder runs, grab fallen feathers for a brief lift-off, and touch floating energy orbs to counter the Owl.

Sea Calamity Zone and Drifting Greenhouse (Phase II)

The Sea Calamity Zone surrounds a Calamity Hatchling with turrets, naval mines, and enemies. Blast open the buildings, detonate mines early, and destroy the shield core in the outer buildings. Then the central shield drops, and the Hatchling becomes vulnerable.

Drifting Greenhouses appear on specific islands and summon poison pools as they rise. Weave between the pools, defeat the greenhouse, and gather the deviated plants it leaves behind for bonus rewards.

The Sunken Lord

Once server purification hits 100%, The Sunken Lord’s entrance platform rises from the sea. Your server must first defeat a Calamity Hatchling and win the door battle before teams can push inside.

Inside, you fight through corridors and layered platforms toward the core. Expect tentacle sieges, bullet barrages, and violent hull smashes, while spreading lava steadily shrinks your safe space.

Once Human Isles of Abyss Launch Rewards

Final Thoughts

Once Human Isles of Abyss rewards players who treat their ship like a build, not a taxi. Tech gates almost everything, so your carried-over Blueprints and Mods only reach full power as you explore and clear challenges.

Our advice is simple: Rush a Coastal Skiff, save its design, and then shape your next ship around the job you enjoy most. Pack the right Haywire Zone kit before every trip. Then chase Heart of the Ocean, both new Mods, and Duet as long-term goals.
