Brawl Stars in 2026 still makes sense if you want multiplayer action that fits into a short break. Its team battles offer clear goals, and learning when to attack, retreat, or help a teammate gives you plenty to improve.
The bigger commitment comes between matches. Character unlocks, ability upgrades, and competitive requirements all affect how far you can push. That leaves Supercell’s hit in an interesting place. It remains easy to try, while building the roster you want takes more patience.
Fast Matches Still Give Brawl Stars Its Appeal
The appeal starts with how differently its modes use the same characters. Gem Grab asks you to collect and protect gems, while Brawl Ball adds possession and goals. Showdown offers solo or duo survival when you want a different kind of pressure.
Those objectives give combat a purpose beyond chasing eliminations. Protecting a teammate can matter more than landing another hit, and knowing when to back off becomes part of learning the game.
Short sessions also make losses easier to move past. You can change your character or mode and try another approach without committing to a lengthy match.
Brawler Blast Changes How You Collect Characters
Returning players will notice a major change to progression. Starr Road has been replaced by Brawler Blast, an arcade-style character unlock system.
Credits still move you toward a new Brawler, and rarity costs remain unchanged. The opening can also give that character bonus upgrades, so an unlock can help you prepare them for matches sooner.
However, you have less reliable control over who joins your collection. Supercell lists a 50% chance of receiving a character choice during a Brawler Blast opening.
That trade-off will suit some players better than others. Extra upgrades are useful when you are happy to try whoever arrives. Waiting for one particular character can feel less rewarding.
Buffies and Paid Passes Add Progression Pressure
Collecting a character is only part of developing them. Buffies permanently strengthen Gadgets, Star Powers, or Hypercharges, and they add another upgrade system to understand.
You can obtain a random Buffie through the Claw Machine or spend Gems on a specific one. These bonuses affect abilities, so players who want stronger builds have more to collect alongside their regular upgrades.
The redesigned Brawl Pass also uses Vault Keys for rewards such as resources, characters, skins, and Buffies. Supercell’s published reference prices are $8.99 for Brawl Pass and $12.99 for Brawl Pass Plus, with regional differences.
You can play for free, but paid progression deserves consideration if you plan to compete regularly. Start with characters you enjoy and give their upgrades priority. Spreading resources across every new arrival makes it harder to finish a useful lineup.
Ranked Requires a Developed Roster
Ranked makes that investment more concrete. According to Supercell’s current Ranked guide, Mythic and higher require 12 Brawlers at Power Level 11.
Each month, three maxed Brawlers are available for Ranked even if you have yet to collect or upgrade them yourself. This gives you some extra options, although a serious climb still asks for a developed account.
For a more personal long-term goal, Prestige offers another route. Once a Brawler reaches 1,000 Trophies, you can Prestige them and continue earning permanent progress without seasonal resets.
Choose the challenge that interests you before chasing both. Ranked asks you to prepare for different matchups, while Prestige lets you focus on progress with a favorite character.
October Events Keep the Game Active
Brawl Stars continues to add seasonal activities alongside its regular battles. Scary Coffins runs until October 26, with community objectives, coffin voting, and predictions about hidden rewards.
The official announcement names possible prizes such as Gravestone Griff, an Ultra Chaos Drop, and a Buffie. These give regular players something extra to work toward between their usual matches.
You can see the current activity in Supercell’s video:

Loading Improvements Help Short Sessions
Getting into the game has received attention too. In July, Supercell described Android loading improvements that reduced waits from around 35 seconds to five or six seconds on some older devices.
The reported gains are encouraging if older hardware kept you waiting before every session, although loading times will vary by device.
Is Brawl Stars Worth Playing in 2026?
Yes, Brawl Stars is worth playing in 2026 if you enjoy short competitive matches and have patience for gradual progression. Its different objectives give familiar characters room to stay interesting, especially when you have teammates who want to learn with you.
The harder sell is collecting and upgrading a broad competitive roster. If that becomes your main goal, expect a longer commitment. Start with the battles themselves, find a few characters you like, and decide how much time or money their progression deserves.
