Ultimate Weapons (UWs) are among the most important long-term upgrades in The Tower – Idle Tower Defense. They add powerful abilities to your tower, but their real value goes far beyond the effect shown on the screen. Some UWs dramatically increase your coin income, while others improve survivability or provide the damage needed for later-stage progression.
And for most players, the central progression path is built around Golden Tower (GT), Black Hole (BH), and Death Wave (DW), with Spotlight (SL) becoming an important later addition. This guide ranks the UWs, explains which one to choose first, walks through the crucial GT/BH cooldown sync, and shows where your Power Stones should go next.
Ultimate Weapon Tier List
The rankings below prioritize account progression and coin farming, rather than judging each Ultimate Weapon purely by combat damage.
| TIER | UW | ROLE | BENEFIT |
| S | Golden Tower (GT) | Economy | Provides major Cash and Coin multipliers and forms the foundation of efficient farming. |
| S | Black Hole (BH) | Economy + Crowd Control | Pulls enemies together and gains a powerful Coin multiplier through its Labs. |
| S- | Death Wave (DW) | Health + Economy | Provides health scaling and economic bonuses while remaining useful for specialized builds. |
| A | Spotlight (SL) | Damage + Economy | Increases damage against enemies in its beams and adds another important Coin multiplier through research. |
| A | Chain Lightning (CL) | DPS + Shock | Provides continuous damage and can amplify damage through its Shock mechanics. |
| B | Chrono Field (CF) | Slow + Survival | Excellent for advanced survival builds, but expensive to develop for sustained uptime. |
| B | Smart Missiles (SM) | Burst Damage | Strong offensive potential and particularly effective when combined with Spotlight. |
| C | Inner Land Mines (ILM) | Stun + Crowd Control | Useful for crowd control and specific missions, but usually a lower early priority. |
| C | Poison Swamp (PS) | Damage over Time + Control | Provides area damage and stun utility, but generally requires more investment before becoming impressive. |
Why Economy UWs Rank So Highly?
The Tower is an incremental game, so the value of an Ultimate Weapon isn’t measured only by how much damage it deals. Golden Tower (GT) increases the resources generated during runs. Black Hole (BH) can multiply that income further once its relevant research is developed. Death Wave (DW) adds additional economic and health benefits, while Spotlight eventually contributes both damage and economy. In other words, the strongest early UWs help you build the rest of your account faster.
Should You Reroll Your First Ultimate Weapon?
Rerolling is an account-management decision rather than an absolute requirement. If you’re only a short way into the game and receive poor first UW choices, restarting can save a significant amount of future grinding. A practical approach will be:
- GT on the first choice: No reroll needed.
- BH or DW without GT: Continue only if you don’t want to restart, but understand that the account’s early economy will be weaker.
- No GT after several early choices: A fresh start may be worth considering while the account has very little progress invested.
Don’t restart an established account merely because another player recommends it. The time you’ve already invested matters, and a non-perfect UW starting lineup can still be developed successfully.

Golden Tower and Black Hole Sync
Once you own both Golden Tower and Black Hole, one of the most important decisions in the game is their cooldown synchronization. GT begins with a 5:00 cooldown, while BH starts at 3:20. That means they do not activate together every cycle. Their base cooldowns do, however, naturally overlap periodically. The long-term goal is to bring both to the same cooldown so they fire together on every activation.
The economic bonuses from GT and BH work especially well when both effects are active on the same enemies. A kill benefiting from both multipliers can generate substantially more Coins than a kill affected by only one of them. The result is a compounding effect that makes synchronized activations one of the foundations of efficient farming.
The Safe Early Sync
- Leave Black Hole at 3:20 (200 seconds).
- Then save enough Power Stones to reduce Golden Tower from 5:00 to 3:20 in one sequence.
The commonly targeted cost for this GT cooldown reduction is 910 Power Stones. The important point isn’t simply the number of Stones. It’s avoiding a partial cooldown upgrade that leaves GT at an awkward intermediate value.
The 3:20 Sync
The simple progression is:
- BH: 3:20
- GT: From 5:00 to 3:20
- Result: GT and BH activate together every 200 seconds.
This is generally a much better early farming milestone than gradually reducing one cooldown without a plan.
Extending the Sync to Death Wave
Once GT and BH are synchronized, Death Wave can be incorporated into the same cycle. Death Wave starts with a 5:00 cooldown, so it also needs to be reduced if you want it to activate alongside the 3:20 GT/BH pair.
This requires another planned Power Stone investment rather than casually reducing its cooldown. The eventual goal is to have GT, BH, and DW activate together, allowing their economic effects to overlap during the same kill windows.

Power Stone Upgrade Priority
Power Stones are primarily associated with progression systems such as Tournaments, Weekly Missions, Milestones, and Events, so every major expenditure should have a purpose. A strong progression path looks like this:
- Unlock GT – Unlock BH – Sync GT/BH – Develop GT/BH – Add DW/SL – Expand into later UWs
The exact order can change depending on the three choices presented when you unlock a new UW, but the economic core should remain the priority.
First UW should be the Golden Tower. Take GT whenever it appears among your available choices. For second and third UWs, prioritize Black Hole and Death Wave, especially when they appear before more specialized damage weapons. Getting all three doesn’t mean you’re finished, but it establishes the foundation for a strong farming account.
Once GT and BH are synchronized, resist the temptation to immediately unlock several additional UWs. Develop the two weapons that are already responsible for your main economic engine.
Golden Tower Upgrades
Prioritize Golden Tower Bonus and Duration alongside the cooldown strategy. The goal is to increase both the strength and frequency of the coin-boosting windows without breaking synchronization. A useful farming target is to eventually push the multiplier well beyond its starting value, with 15x or more representing a meaningful milestone for the build described here.
Black Hole Upgrades
Black Hole’s Size and Duration determine how effectively it gathers enemies and keeps them inside its field. The build here uses roughly 44m–60m size and 20–30 seconds of duration as useful development targets, although the ideal values depend on your wider tower setup. Don’t upgrade BH purely for a larger number. Its value comes from how effectively its coverage interacts with your tower range, Orbs, and enemy positioning.

Keep GT Duration Ahead of BH
A useful rule for the classic farming setup is to keep GT Duration roughly 12 seconds longer than Black Hole’s Duration. That gives the Golden Tower window enough overlap to cover the important portion of the BH activation.
Once your primary economy engine is developed, start looking at the next Ultimate Weapons based on what your account needs, such as:
- Spotlight: Spotlight is one of the most important later additions because it combines strong damage amplification with economic utility. Its beams increase the damage enemies take, while research provides an additional Coin bonus.
- Chain Lightning: Chain Lightning is a strong choice when you want more continuous damage. Its defining feature is Shock, which can increase the damage enemies take and make the UW valuable beyond its direct lightning attacks.
- Chrono Field: Chrono Field becomes extremely powerful when you can maintain very high uptime. The problem is cost. Reaching a state where it can remain active continuously requires substantial Power Stone investment, making it a poor early purchase when your economy UWs are still underdeveloped.
Ultimate Weapon Upgrade Mistakes to Avoid
- Breaking Your GT/BH Sync: This is the biggest early-game mistake. Don’t spend Power Stones on GT or BH cooldown without knowing exactly how the new values will interact.
- Chasing Damage Before Economy: A flashy damage UW can feel more immediately powerful than Golden Tower or Black Hole, but early economy improvements can accelerate every other part of your account.
- Unlocking Too Many UWs Too Quickly: Having more UWs isn’t automatically better. An account with several weakly developed weapons may perform worse than one with fewer UWs that are heavily optimized.
- Ignoring Labs: Unlocking GT or BH is only the beginning. Their associated Labs are a major part of what turns these weapons into effective farming tools. Especially for Black Hole, research that improves its Coin contribution can dramatically change its value.

Ultimate Weapons are a long-term investment, and the strongest early strategy in The Tower – Idle Tower Defense is usually to improve the systems that accelerate the rest of your account.
Golden Tower should be the first major target, with Black Hole and Death Wave forming the core of a powerful economic setup. Once GT and BH are both unlocked, protecting their cooldown relationship is crucial. Bringing GT down from 5:00 to 3:20 while leaving BH at 3:20 creates the classic 1:1 sync and gives both weapons consistent overlapping activations.
From there, invest in their bonuses, duration, size, and Labs before expanding aggressively into additional UWs. Power Stones take time to accumulate, so think of every UW purchase as part of a progression plan rather than a one-off upgrade. A disciplined economic foundation will let you build a stronger tower much faster.
