Azur Lane has a huge roster of shipgirls, and knowing which ones deserve your Bulin copies, Gear Plates, Coins, and EXP isn’t always easy. Most ships can contribute to early progression, but the demands of Chapter 14+, Operation Siren, and Arbiter battles are much higher.
We are focusing on the ships that offer the most value in challenging content in this Azur Lane tier list for 2026. The rankings cover both Main Fleet and Vanguard ships, with separate recommendations for Battleships, Aircraft Carriers, Cruisers, Destroyers, and essential healers.
Azur Lane Tier List Criteria
- EX / S-Tier: Meta-Defining Ships: These are the strongest ships for difficult content. The group is dominated by Ultra Rare (UR) and Priority Research (PR/DR) ships with exceptional damage, powerful fleet synergy, or outstanding survivability.
- A-Tier: Excellent Ships: A-Tier ships are highly dependable and can handle the majority of the game’s content. They may not reach the same performance as the very best ships, but they’re excellent long-term investments.
- B-Tier: Solid Alternatives: B-Tier ships remain useful, especially during early and mid-game progression. They can fill important roles when you don’t have access to the strongest options, although some may struggle against the most demanding endgame enemies.
Main Fleet Tier List: Battleships & Aircraft Carriers
The Main Fleet provides much of your team’s raw damage. Battleships and Battlecruisers specialize in heavy shelling and boss damage, while Aircraft Carriers provide powerful airstrikes, screen clearing, and airspace control.

| B-Tier | Ark Royal (Retrofit), Illustrious, Ryuuhou, Saratoga (Retrofit) |
Which Main Fleet Ships Should You Build?
If you obtain Alsace, Musashi, or Bismarck Zwei, they’re strong candidates for immediate investment. Their combination of damage and endgame performance makes them very valuable when you’re moving into harder content.
For players who don’t have a large collection of UR ships, Enterprise remains an exceptional option. She’s relatively accessible compared with many top-tier ships and can deliver excellent damage throughout a large portion of the game.

Vanguard Tier List: Cruisers and Destroyers
The Vanguard is responsible for surviving enemy fire while dealing consistent damage and providing important debuffs or utility. A well-balanced fleet generally benefits from having a durable frontline tank, a high-damage ship, and another versatile ship capable of filling whatever role the encounter demands.
Heavy and Large Cruisers
| TIER | SHIPS |
| EX / S-Tier | Ägir, Brest, Guam, Kronshtadt, Plymouth, Unzen, Drake |

Why Helena (Retrofit) Is So Valuable
Helena (Retrofit) deserves special attention despite being a Light Cruiser. Her Radar Scan ability can provide an enormous damage increase for the entire fleet when it activates at the right time. That fleet-wide amplification gives Helena value far beyond her personal damage output, particularly in boss fights where maximizing burst windows matters.
For pure survivability, ships such as Ägir and Anchorage are excellent frontline choices. Their defensive tools allow them to absorb huge amounts of damage while keeping the rest of the Vanguard safer.

Best Healers in Azur Lane
Healing ships deserve their own category because sustain becomes increasingly important as you move into difficult campaign stages. A strong healer can keep your Vanguard alive through waves that would otherwise defeat your fleet before the boss appears.
Unicorn (Retrofit) – S-Tier Healer
Unicorn (Retrofit) is one of the most valuable support ships available to newer players. Her retrofit improves her ability to support the fleet, including a preloaded airstrike that allows her healing to take effect immediately when the battle begins. She also contributes meaningful damage, making her useful rather than purely defensive. For many players, Unicorn is one of the best early investments to make.
Perseus – S-Tier Healer
Perseus provides another powerful healing option. Her kit includes two preloaded airstrikes and healing that can support fleets across different engagements. Her ability to provide sustain without completely sacrificing offensive pressure makes her very useful for difficult campaign and longer-form encounters.

How to Build Around the Tier List
A high-tier ship is only useful when the rest of the fleet supports it. Rather than filling every slot with the highest-ranked ships you own, think about the job each ship needs to perform.
- Build Around Your Main Damage Dealer: Choose a powerful Battleship or Carrier as the centerpiece of your Main Fleet and use the remaining slots to support its strengths. Boss-focused fleets benefit from strong burst damage and offensive buffs, while mob fleets may place more emphasis on reliable screen clearing and sustain.
- Don’t Neglect Your Vanguard: The Main Fleet cannot deal damage if your Vanguard collapses before the battle is over. Include at least one durable frontline ship, especially when progressing through difficult campaign stages. Ships such as Ägir and Anchorage are excellent choices when survival is the main concern.
- Add a Healer for Difficult Mob Stages: A healer isn’t mandatory for every battle, but longer mob stages become much easier when your Vanguard can recover HP between attacks. Unicorn (Retrofit) is quite attractive for newer Commanders because she combines healing, immediate support, and useful offensive contribution.
Should New Players Chase UR Ships?
Not necessarily. The strongest ships on a tier list tend to dominate difficult endgame content, but that doesn’t mean your account is doomed without a full UR roster. Early and mid-game progression can be handled by a much wider selection of ships. Investing in good equipment, leveling a focused group of ships, and improving key Retrofits can often produce better results than constantly replacing functional ships with new ones.
For example, Laffey, Javelin, and Z23 become considerably stronger through their Retrofits, while ships such as Portland (Retrofit) and Unicorn (Retrofit) can provide enormous value despite not being UR ships.

The best Azur Lane roster is built around role coverage and fleet synergy, not rarity alone. For the Main Fleet, ships such as Alsace, Musashi, Bismarck Zwei, Admiral Nakhimov, Implacable, Shinano, and Hakuryuu are among the strongest choices for difficult content.
In the Vanguard, Ägir, Brest, Guam, Plymouth, Helena (Retrofit), Shimakaze, and Laffey II stand out for their combination of durability, damage, and utility. Meanwhile, Unicorn (Retrofit) and Perseus are among the most valuable dedicated healers for keeping fleets alive.
New players shouldn’t feel pressured to build a roster full of URs immediately. Start with the strongest ships available to you, invest in important Retrofits, keep your equipment up to date, and gradually build toward specialized endgame fleets. A well-developed roster of accessible ships will take you much further than a collection of underleveled rarities.
