Welcome to Wasteland, a magical but dangerous realm where forgotten Disney characters still live. In Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, you step into Mickey Mouse’s shoes and wield a magical paintbrush capable of changing the world around you. Whether you’re restoring forgotten objects, erasing obstacles, fighting enemies, or searching for collectibles, almost every action has consequences.
This beginner guide covers the game’s morality system, movement, combat, exploration, and the most important collectibles to look out for during your adventure.
1. Paint vs. Thinner: Understanding the Karma System
Mickey’s magic paintbrush has two functions: “Paint” restores objects and brings them back to life, while “Thinner” erases them. Your choices affect the environment, NPC reactions, available rewards, and the ending of your story.
| Feature | Paint Path (Hero) | Thinner Path (Destructive) 🧪 |
| 🌍 World Impact | Restores buildings, platforms, and bridges🏗️ | Erases structures to reveal shortcuts and hidden chests 🗝️ |
| 👾 Enemies | Pacifies Blotlings and turns them into temporary allies 🤝 | Dissolves enemies quickly into ink pools 💧 |
| 🏆 Boss Rewards | Increases Mickey’s maximum Paint capacity 🎨 | Increases Mickey’s maximum Thinner capacity 🧪 |
| 🧑🤝🧑 NPC Outcome | Generates friendly NPC reactions and better story endings 😊 | Causes NPCs to become hostile or distrustful 😠 |
You don’t have to commit completely to one path. A balanced approach is often best for exploration. Use Paint to restore bridges and platforms when you need a safe route, but try Thinner on suspicious walls and other objects that might hide shortcuts or treasure.

2. Master Mickey’s Movement Kit
Movement becomes increasingly important as you progress through Wasteland. Learn these abilities early:
- Sprint: Hold the sprint button to cover large distances across big areas such as Mean Street more quickly.
- Dash: Perform a quick dodge to avoid enemy projectiles or close gaps between moving platforms.
- Ground Pound: Slam into the ground from the air to break weak floorboards, destroy enemy shields, and activate ground buttons.
- Extended Spin-Jump: Jump, double-jump, and perform Mickey’s Spin Attack at the peak of your jump to gain extra distance and reach ledges.

Combining these abilities with Paint and Thinner is often the key to reaching hidden areas.
3. Combat Tactics & Enemy Types
Blotlings (Ink Monsters)
Blotlings are the primary ink-based enemies you’ll encounter. Spatters and Sweepers can be sprayed with Paint until their health meter turns blue, at which point they become temporary allies. Alternatively, use Thinner to weaken them and finish them with a Spin Attack.
Beetleworx
Beetleworx are mechanical enemies and cannot be turned into allies with Paint. Instead, use Thinner to remove their outer armor and expose their red power core. Once exposed, attack the core with a Spin Attack to destroy them.

Managing Ammo & Health
- Break Everything: Destroy barrels, wooden crates, statues, and other objects to find E-Tickets, health hearts, and Paint or Thinner refills.
- Watch Your Gauges: Try not to completely deplete both Paint and Thinner during boss fights. Keep an eye out for ambient ink pools that can refill your brush.
4. Exploration & Collectibles Guide
Pay close attention to objects that appear translucent or exist only as outlines. Spraying them with Paint can bring them into existence and create new platforms or chests. Walls with cracks or sparkling effects may be hiding passages that can only be opened with Thinner.
Key Collectibles
- Pins (112 Total): You can acquire Pins by opening red chests, helping Gremlins and NPCs, completing side quests, or purchasing them from the Emporium on Mean Street.
- 2D Film Reels: Film Reels are found inside the 2D side-scrolling Projector Screen transitions between areas. Each projector level contains two Film Reels. Take them to the Usher at the Cinema on Mean Street to unlock Pins and Special Costumes.
- E-Tickets: E-Tickets are the main currency in the game. Save them for quest items, health upgrades, and rare Pins at the Mean Street Emporium. Try to have at least 1,000 E-Tickets when you reach Mean Street so you can purchase exclusive Pins and Concept Art.
- Concept Art: These glowing red-and-gold collectibles are usually hidden in secret rooms or awarded for solving environmental puzzles.
| PRO TIP | The Colonel Pete Reel is a separate quest item found inside a hidden chest behind a Thinner wall in the Lonesome Manor Foyer. Collect it before raising the stairs, because it can become permanently missable afterward. |

The most important lesson in Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is to experiment. Paint and Thinner aren’t simply combat tools; they allow you to reshape the game world and discover different solutions to puzzles. Explore carefully, break suspicious objects, and don’t be afraid to revisit areas when you gain new abilities. This approach will help you find more collectibles, unlock additional rewards, and get more out of Mickey’s adventure.
