Dark Dimension VI (DD6) and Dark Dimension VII (DD7) are major account-building milestones in Marvel Strike Force. By this stage, simply having powerful characters is no longer enough. You need to decide which characters deserve scarce Gear Tier 18 and Gear Tier 19 resources, plan around unique gear bottlenecks, and avoid investing heavily in characters who will have little value outside Dark Dimension.
That’s why we prepared this MSF DD6 and DD7 guide: Below, we will break down the main sections, the strongest team-building options, and the most important resource-planning decisions for making consistent progress without wasting valuable gear.
Global Nodes: Orchis and High-End Control
Global nodes are traditionally among the most demanding sections because battles can become increasingly difficult as enemy waves accumulate. Your team needs a combination of damage, control, sustain, and survivability rather than simply maximum Power.
Best Global Investments
Nimrod and Omega Sentinel are the strongest options here; they bring strong damage and utility. Omega Red can also provide significant value through control, durability, and armor reduction. His utility makes him a useful alternative when you want a character who can contribute beyond straightforward damage.
What to Look for in Global
When selecting your final Global characters, prioritize:
- Reliable sustain: Global encounters can become long battles, so characters that help your team survive multiple enemy turns are extremely valuable.
- Control: Ability disruption and other forms of control can prevent dangerous enemies from gaining momentum.
- Wave management: Favor characters capable of contributing against several targets or quickly removing the enemies that enable the rest of the wave.
Cosmic Nodes: Heavy Hitters and Gear Planning
Cosmic encounters place even more pressure on resource management. Mystic and Tech gear can become painful bottlenecks, so building five characters simply because they’re individually strong can create problems later.
Annihilators as the Core
The Annihilators provide an excellent foundation for Cosmic sections, especially when combined with modern heavy hitters. Vahl and Kahhori are strong additions when available, bringing high damage and useful mechanics that help handle difficult enemy waves.
Knull as an Alternative
Knull is another powerful Cosmic option. His high stats and ability to deal with multiple enemy spawns make him useful when you’re struggling to clear waves quickly enough. The important point is to avoid filling the entire Cosmic team with characters that consume the same scarce gear. A slightly less optimal character can be the smarter choice if they save a major gear bottleneck for another section.
Cosmic Gear Priority
Before gearing a Cosmic character, check:
- Origin requirements: Make sure several characters aren’t competing for the same gear type.
- Unique pieces: A shortage of one character-specific unique can delay an entire team.
- Daily-use value: Characters who also contribute to Raids, Arena, Crucible, or War should generally receive priority over Dark Dimension-only choices.
City Nodes: Spider-Society Leads the Way
City encounters reward teams that can combine speed, healing, evasion, and sustained damage. This is one area where using a coordinated team is generally much better than assembling five individually powerful characters.
Spider-Society Core
Spider-Society is the preferred foundation for City content. Characters such as Peni Parker and Peter B. Parker provide the core synergy needed to make these encounters more manageable. The team’s speed and sustain allow it to handle waves efficiently while its individual members support one another.
Add Modern City Specialists
You can improve the lineup by replacing weaker options with stronger modern City characters where appropriate. Blade and Oath can provide useful offensive and utility options, especially if you’re already developing them for other areas of the game.
Legacy Alternatives
Players who have already invested heavily in older City characters can still use options such as Superior Spider-Man and selected Hive-Mind members. However, the opportunity cost matters. If you’re starting from scratch, building a modern Spider-Society core generally makes more sense than spending large amounts of gear bringing an outdated City team back to the required tier.
Legendary Section: Spend G19 Carefully
The Legendary section is where Gear Tier 19 investment becomes especially painful. Crimson gear is scarce, so every Legendary character you choose should ideally have strong value outside Dark Dimension.
Old Man Logan Is a Priority
Old Man Logan (OML) should be near the top of your Legendary investment list. His combination of high damage, survivability, and usefulness elsewhere makes him an exceptionally valuable Dark Dimension character. Rather than filling the remaining slots with older Legendary characters simply because they’re eligible, prioritize modern choices that can continue contributing after you finish DD7.
Other Strong Legendary Options
Characters such as Shadow King, Invisible Woman (MCU/Reworked), and Phoenix can provide useful additions depending on your roster and available gear. The exact five-character combination matters less than ensuring that your investment doesn’t leave you with several expensive characters who have little use afterward.
The Legendary Gear Rule
Before taking a Legendary character to G19, ask one question: Will I still use this character after DD7? If the answer is no, look for another eligible character that has value in Arena, Crucible, War, or Raids. Crimson gear is too scarce to spend casually.
Mythic Nodes: Build Around Apocalypse and Super-Skrull
Mythic requirements create another resource challenge because the eligible roster is much smaller. This makes your choices more important, because several of the strongest candidates compete for expensive gear.
Apocalypse and Super-Skrull
Apocalypse and Super-Skrull should be treated as major priorities. Both are powerful enough to justify the investment well beyond Dark Dimension, making them much safer choices than niche Mythic characters. Their presence can also reduce the pressure on the rest of the team because they can handle a large portion of the node’s damage requirements themselves.
Fill the Remaining Slots Efficiently
For the remaining positions, use strong plug-and-play characters such as Kestrel or Ultimus, provided they fit your gear budget. The goal isn’t necessarily to create the theoretical strongest five-character lineup. You’re looking for the smallest investment that can clear the section reliably while preserving scarce Mystic and other gear for future upgrades.
Gear Planner: How to Avoid Bottlenecks
Dark Dimension progression is often limited by gear availability rather than character shards or levels.
Never Upgrade Blindly
Before taking a character to G18 or G19, check exactly which origin gear, uniques, catalysts, and other materials they require. Then compare those requirements with every other character you expect to build for the same Dark Dimension run. A simple gear-planning sheet can prevent situations where you finish one character only to discover that you no longer have the materials needed for your next required character.
Keep a Gear Reserve
Don’t spend every piece of a rare material as soon as you acquire it. Keep a reserve for the next character in your progression plan, especially for origins and uniques that are already in short supply. This becomes especially important when newly released characters suddenly become attractive options.
Prioritize the Real Bottleneck
You don’t need every piece of a character’s gear at the same time. Identify the material or unique that’s actually preventing your next upgrade and focus your farming efforts there. That gives you a much clearer progression path than simply spending every available resource on whichever character currently has an open gear slot.

Should You Rush DD6 or DD7?
It’s tempting to push Dark Dimension as quickly as possible, especially when you’re close to completing a section. However, rushing can create a much bigger problem if it forces you to gear characters that become obsolete shortly afterward. A better approach is to build around account-wide progression.
Continue developing your best Raid and PvP characters while accumulating Dark Dimension gear in the background. When you eventually have the right characters and resources, you’ll be able to enter the next section with a roster that is already useful elsewhere. A well-planned roster may take longer to assemble, but it will save you from having to rebuild your progression every time the meta moves forward.
