Following the official launch of Civilization: Reign of Power just 5 months ago in November 2022 in Southeast Asia, Nexon recently announced that the mobile strategy game is closing on 8th June 2023 “after careful consideration and deliberation.” Based on the IP created by Sid Meier, Civilization is one of the top strategy IPs in the gaming world along with Age of Empires.
However, Nexon did not exactly promote the game well and definitely underestimated the Southeast Asia market despite the huge potential revenue in the region. With almost zero marketing campaign and live events running on the ground, the publisher probably thought that doing everything online is enough to reach out to the tens of millions of players. Just another bad example of how not to launch games in Southeast Asia!
