Yesterday, it was revealed in the Japanese news that a gamer was arrested by the police for threatening to kill Square Enix employees via email. While some companies might wave it off as another random disgruntled threat from a player, Square Enix felt that the threat, which includes “wash your necks” and “I’m going to kill you”, should not be taken lightly.
Arrested on 29 March, the accessed admitted he wanted to vent his anger after not getting the item(s) he wanted in a Square Enix game having spent 200,000 Yen (around 1,800 USD). While not detailed, it is most likely a F2P mobile game with gacha. According to Square Enix, the company has received about 30 death threats since September 2018.
