Just a few days ago, I posted about Sonov Entertainment’s upcoming MMOFPS, Project Mercury. Today, a press conference was organised to officially announce the game’s existence. I am still not sure if the company will still be using Project Mercury as the game’s official title once it goes commercial, but going by the looks, I wouldn’t bet against it.
Project Mercury’s storyline is about the fight between 2 factions, the Federal Police Crops and Mafia (roughly translated). Teased at the press conference were 5 characters, Raptor, Fox, Bigfoot, Hwak and Phantom. As mentioned in my previous post, the game’s design style will include elements of the past, present and future and also both Western and Eastern, a feature touted as “Retro Visual”.
As you can see from the 2 character designs in the poster below, they have a rather heavy 80’s influence. There are more wacky designs, so have a look at the really cool trailer right at the bottom!
PvE will be limited to 4 players a team, with heavy traditional MMORPGs’ features like a solid storyline, various chapters and special missions. Also mentioned previously, it seems the Town Plaza will be the only place players will be able to see each other and form parties or trade, much like Guild Wars. In the instances, a new “Contribution System” will also be implemented to reward players’ for their efforts even if they fail to complete. Closed Beta is scheduled to start late this year or early in 2011.
