Japanese developer Koei Tecmo launched a new Dynasty Warriors game last week in Japan for mobile platforms, and it hasn’t really worked out. Titled Shin Dynasty Warriors (真・三國無双), the 2.5 score on Google Play and 2.4 score on App Store from local gamers really says it all. While I understand the need to re-create the console experience, the mobile platform is really a different beast which Koei Tecmo got it all wrong.
In fact, no one using the Dynasty Warriors IP managed to find the correct formula so far (including Nexon). Controls are clunky in Shin Dynasty Warriors, the action feedback on characters is slow, the auto-combat AI has no intelligence, and some elements just don’t make sense for a war game (such as allowing players to proceed after killing X amount of enemies even if there are still enemies around). This game will unlikely see a launch outside of Asia.
