Kakao Games yesterday launched its latest mobile MMORPG in South Korea, TERA Classic. Apparently the first game by Lantu Games, it is crafted using Unreal Engine 4 and the events takes place before the story of TERA (PC version). There are a few TERA mobile games in development, and this is the second one after TERA M by Netmarble (which performed poorly in South Korea). We had a quick run, and overall felt it was pretty standard fare, but doesn’t mean it is bad. Perhaps mobile MMORPG fatigue is kicking in…
Some of the glaring negatives include the lack of playable classes, races, and we were surprised by the lack of customization options for characters. We felt that games like Black Desert Mobile has already set the bar, and ambitious games using big IPs should at least be on par. A key feature of TERA is to fly across the land on a Pegasus as a mean of transport, and we did not get any of that during our brief run. Most traveling was done on horseback, or just a simple teleport. No overseas launch has been announced yet for TERA Classic.
