Following the recent news that Amazon Game Studios is working with China developer Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited to create a MMO based on The Lord of the Rings IP, more information has been revealed over at ChinaJoy 2019. Giving a chat about ambitious plans for Leyou moving forward, CEO Xu Yiran confirmed it is working on 2 other new titles, including Transformers Online and Civilization Online. • Other than MMO based on LOTR, Mr Xu revealed that Leyou is working on 2 new projects, one a Free-to-Play first-person shooter based on Hasbro’s Transformers IP and a MMORPG based on Civilization.
• Tencent Games previously has a Transformers Online game which you can read more about here. It is also a Free-to-Play first person shooter which has since went silent.
• This new version of Transformers Online will be developed by American studio Certain Affinity, which took part in the development of several Halo and Call of Duty titles. This title is set to launch on PC and game consoles when available. Back in 2018, Leyou invested USD 10 million in Certain Affinity.
• For the MMORPG based on Civilization, Leyou has named it as Civilization Online. It is most likely not linked to the failed one previously by South Korean studio XLGAMES, which also bears the same title. This new version of Civilization Online is set to launch on PC and game consoles when available.
