Following the suicide incidents at Netmarble due to overworking (which was subsequently improved), Nexon Korea today announced it is adopting a flexible working culture for its employees starting 1 July. This action is inline with what other major gaming companies in South Korea are implementing to allow more leisure time for the employees. There are certain rules and regulations to follow, but overall employees will have more free hours.
Standard work time (8 hours per day):
Plan A –
- Compulsory core work time: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Start work at 07:00 AM ~ 10:00 AM and leave work at 3:00 PM ~ 7:00 PM
Plan B –
- Compulsory core work time: 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Start work at 07:00 AM ~ 11:00 AM and leave work at 4:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM
Employees should not be working after 10:00 PM during holidays or weekends unless special permission is granted. Each employee will also be personally informed by an alarm after he or she has clocked 8 hours and 30 minutes at work each day. Nexon will also be rescheduling shuttle bus rides for employees, and changing the opening hours of restaurants, cafeterias, and fitness facilities to suit the new schedule. More changes to work-life balance are promised after meetings with the employee representatives.
