After being berated by the government, human rights groups, current and former employees, South Korean developer Netmarble finally launched a plan to make sure no more employees commit suicide or pass away due to over-working in the company. Most importantly, the core working hours of Netmarble has been changed to reflect this, and more internal events are launched to promote healthy lifestyle and work-life balance. Family is now the key mantra for Netmarble, and here are some of the initiatives activated.
1. Known as “Selective Working Time System”, core working hours in Netmarble has been set at 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, including 1 hour of lunch break. If an employee arrives at work at 8:00 AM, he or she is eligible to knock off at 4:00 PM. If an employee arrives at work at 10:00 AM, he or she can knock off at 6:00 PM.
2. Employees are prohibited to work in the office between 10:00 PM to 08:00 AM on all days, including holidays, unless an application has been submitted and approved in advance.
3. Introduced earlier, pregnant Netmarble employees are only required to work 30 hours per week, based on a schedule of their own choosing.
