After a soft launch in selected countries, Sonic Runners has officially launched worldwide. The 2D side-scrolling infinite runner is the first free Sonic title created exclusively for mobile by Sonic Team. Featuring Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, players race through an endless world where they must navigate the environment to collect rings and gems, all while avoiding enemies from all directions.
“Sonic Runners marks a return to the classic 2D styling the world love, with perfected gameplay experience packed with a high-speed punch that is equal parts challenging and fun,” said Takashi Iizuka, Head of Sonic Team. “As our first game for mobile devices, we are thrilled with the outcome, which combines the classic challenge of a side-scrolling platformer with an endless runner.”
In Sonic’s most challenging mobile game to-date, players will tap their devices to make Sonic and his friends run, jump, and fly their way through the enemy-riddled environment. Players will also complete boss battles against the infamous Dr. Eggman as they make their way through the storyline all in order to save the planet’s animals. The further a player advances, the more their speed increases.
With global competitive play, players have four categories in which to rank and set records: “Rival League”, “Friend,” “World,” and “Historical.” Sonic and his friends can be equipped with Chao and companions to add bonuses like speed, gem collection, and more. Players can look forward to special missions, new characters and buddies, in-game events and additional news coming soon.
