Originally known as Mevius Final Fantasy (I have no idea why the name change), Square Enix recently held a livestream to talk about Mobius Final Fantasy. After going through the online feedback and opinions from various sources, the development team deemed the male main character’s costume as being “too sexy”, and hence added more cloth to the original design to hide more skin.
With the idea of the main character as a “model”, the developers initially wanted the bodyline of his lower back and hips to be seen. After the change though, his bare back is still left exposed in most costumes, even for the Knight class, as this is to showcase his huge and expansive tattoo. Just to note, each time the main character changes class, the costume will change as well.
Mobius Final Fantasy’s project leader Naoki Hamaguchi and managing producer Hiroki Okayama were on the livestream (along with one male and one female presenter), and they made huge efforts to give credit to the original “naked” character design. They also announced that they might bring the original costume back if enough players say they like to see the male hip lines. Weird.
