Thanks to Ms Mitsuki for emailing me the information – Hot off the heels of the “1%” hacking incident in Trion Worlds’ debut MMO, Rift, another game (or has taken a massive hit by DDOS attacks from a group of hackers. Well, make it all games under North American publisher, Perfect World Entertainment. Game servers under the popular Free to Play publisher are taking a massive beating, with disconnects, latency and ping issues plaguing the players.
A forum poster in the Forsaken World forums claims that he and his team of hacker members are responsible for the DDOS attacks, with no apparent reason why. I wonder if PWE will enlist the help of specialists to track down this poster…
No matter the case, PWE is currently still looking to solve the problem and stop the DDOS attacks, with compensation promised so far for the players. An isolated case or does it boil down to PWE’s lack of security measures for their game servers? Hmn… Updates about the situation can be found in this thread.
