Revelation Online found moderate success in both its home country of China and subsequently in the western market, and it is no surprise developer NetEase started worked on a mobile version many years back. Revelation Mobile officially launch in China a few days ago, and we decided to take a quick look at the mobile MMORPG. To start off, there are no new classes introduced, with the starting 5 all playable in the current PC version.
Each class will have a eventually choose 1 of 2 class advancements, each with different stats and purpose on the battlefield. Moving on to the main game, Revelation Mobile is very story-focused, with little combat in the first 2 hours of our time in the game. There are tons of cutscenes and dialogues and choices to be made, and we did not skipped too much of them as this section is really the star of the game when starting out.
Eventually, more combat options open up, such as party instances. Something which caught our eye was the lack of auto-combat in most scenarios, and it was only available in co-op gameplay. Interesting choice. Revelation Mobile boasts a wardrobe of vibrant and unique costumes, mounts, and wings among others, a trend which was also found in the original game. Of course, there were many features which we did not encounter yet which are further into the game.
Overall, we feel that Revelation Mobile’s story might be too long and dramatic, and with the amount of text to localize, we aren’t really sure if it is suited for the western market. Translation costs are pretty high, and it will take a gargantuan effort to make the story content sound relevant as well in different languages. Will any publisher take a huge risk at publishing Revelation Mobile overseas? Time will tell.
