So, we played Roblox games for two weeks. Not as a parent, not as an analyst. Just as a player with an empty avatar. This Roblox review covers what changed in 2026. That means mandatory face scans, the Roblox Plus subscription, and the rebuilt app home. It also covers the part nobody writes honestly about: whether the games are good.
Short answer? Some are excellent. Most are not. Spotting the difference is the real skill.
What Roblox Actually Is?
Roblox is not a game. It is a platform hosting millions of games built by its own users. Roblox Corporation makes the engine, the avatar system, and the currency. Everything else comes from creators. Some are studios with payrolls. Many are teenagers with a laptop.
That distinction matters for a review. Criticising Roblox for a bad simulator is like criticising YouTube for a bad video.

The scale is genuinely hard to picture. Roblox reported 132 million average daily active users in Q1 2026. Engagement hit 31 billion hours in that same quarter.
Roughly 80% of sessions happen on phones. This is a mobile platform that also runs on PC and console.
First Impressions: The Onboarding Still Needs Work
My first hour was rough. Not broken, just unfocused. Avatar creation is fine. The free catalogue is thin, and many of the cooler appearances were locked behind Robux walls. Anything that looks sharp usually costs Robux.
Then the app asks you to pick something to play. That is where new players stall. The old home page threw a wall of thumbnails at you. Categories like “Top Rated” told you what was popular. They never told you what was good. Roblox knows this. Discovery has been its weakest link for a decade.

The New App Home: Moments, Chat, and Me
Roblox rebuilt its app home in July 2026. The rollout started in Canada, New Zealand, and Singapore. It is expanding globally over the following months.
Three tabs replace the old layout:
- Moments — a vertical feed of gameplay clips from friends and creators. Every clip has a Join button. One tap drops you into that game.
- Chat — one continuous conversation that follows you into games. No app switching to coordinate a session.
- Me — avatar editing and profile in a single place, with new avatar backgrounds.
New Zealand players also get a Build tab in public alpha. It is mobile-first game creation that shares a back end with Roblox Studio.
Moments is the smart move here. Watching thirty seconds of a game beats guessing from a thumbnail. My best two finds both came from that feed. Availability of such features varies by age and region of your account. Moments requires an age-checked account of 16 or older.
Roblox Games: Where the Review Actually Happens
Two weeks in, a pattern emerged. Roblox games split cleanly into three buckets.

The Genuinely Good Ones
Some experiences hold up against paid mobile games. Murder Mystery 2 is a social deduction veteran from 2014 that still pulls enormous crowds. Its trading economy keeps lapsed players logging in.
Blox Fruits is a full progression RPG. Quests, bosses, gacha-style power drops, the works. It would sell on any storefront.
Rivals is a competent arena shooter with ranked play and seasonal weapon drops. Grow a Garden 2 is a farming sim built entirely around drop-rate chasing.
The Time Sinks
Then there are the clickers. Tap a mound, buy an egg, hatch a pet, tap faster.
These games are engineered around retention loops, not fun. They are easy to spot after ten minutes. They are also everywhere.

The Ones You Will Never Find
This is the frustrating tier, and honestly might not even matter that much in the large scheme of things. Creators build strange, ambitious games that never reach a front page.
For instance, we found a puzzle-platformer with hand-drawn textures and no marketing. It had a few thousand visits. It was better than most of what the algorithm served us till the time. But due to low visibility, it may never reach its true potential.
Age Checks: The Biggest Change in Years
This is the story of Roblox in 2026. Nothing else comes close. Roblox made age assurance mandatory for chat. The phased rollout began in December 2025. It went global in January 2026.
The default method is facial age estimation, powered by Persona. Your camera records a short selfie video. Software estimates your age band. Government ID verification is also available. Parents can verify a child through parental controls instead.

How the Age Bands Work in Roblox?
Every new user lands in one of six brackets depending on their age:
| Age Band | Chat Access |
| Under 9 | Same band and below |
| 9–12 | Same band and below |
| 13–15 | Same band and below |
| 16–17 | Same band and below |
| 18–20 | Same band and below |
| 21+ | Same band and below |
Chat is permitted within your band and adjacent bands. A 14-year-old cannot message an adult by default.
Roblox Kids and Roblox Select account types completed their global rollout in mid-June 2026.
Do the Age Bands Seem to Work?
Partly. It is a real barrier, not a fix. Playing games without chat still works fine. No scan needed for that.
However, the cost to do so was quite steep. Roblox daily active users fell from a 152 million peak in Q3 2025 to 132 million in Q1 2026. Management cut full-year guidance and pointed at the safety changes directly.
That is a company accepting a large engagement hit on purpose. Read that however you like.
Robux, Roblox Plus, and What You Pay
Roblox is free to download and free to play. Robux is the currency for cosmetics, passes, and private servers. The subscription picture changed in April 2026.

Roblox Plus launched globally on 30 April 2026 at $4.99 per month. Roblox Premium closed to new sign-ups the same day.
| Feature | Roblox Plus ($4.99/mo) | Roblox Premium (legacy) |
| Monthly Robux stipend | None on base plan | Yes, by tier |
| Item discount | 10%, rising to 20% in month three | None |
| Private servers | Free and unlimited | Paid per game |
| Free Robux transfers | Yes, for sending | No |
| Trade and resell avatar items | Yes | Yes |
| New sign-ups available | Yes | No |
Is Roblox Plus Worth It?
Only if you spend regularly on your favourite games. The base tier gives you no Robux at all. Free private servers are the sleeper benefit. If you play with a fixed group, that alone may cover the cost. Casual players should skip it. Buy Robux when you actually need Robux.
Performance and Feel on Mobile
Roblox runs on almost anything. That is the point. Frame rates depend entirely on the experience. A roleplay hub-like game with fifty players will chug on older hardware. A minimal obby brainrot simulator will not.
Touch controls are serviceable rather than good. Precision platformers and shooters feel noticeably better with a controller. One more thing we observed is that battery drain is real on long sessions. Expect heat on smaller phones.
The Honest Verdict on Roblox in 2026
Roblox in 2026 is a better-run platform than it was two years ago. It is also a harder one to love casually.
| Strengths | Weaknesses |
| Enormous free library across every genre | Discovery still buries good games |
| Real safety architecture, not just promises | Age checks add friction for everyone |
| Genuine creator tools and payouts | Heavy monetisation inside many games |
| Runs on almost any device | Touch controls limit competitive play |
| Moments makes finding games easier | Quality varies wildly game to game |
