S-Tier: The Best P5X Characters
S-Tier characters have the tools to make a noticeable difference across a wide range of content. Whether they provide enormous damage, powerful buffs, or essential survivability, these are the characters worth prioritizing when you have limited resources.
Marian (Minami Miyashita) – Best Healer
- Role: Medic / Primary Healer & Buffer
Marian is one of the strongest dedicated healers available. Her main job is keeping the entire team alive, but her value goes beyond simply restoring HP. She can cleanse harmful debuffs while also temporarily increasing the team’s maximum HP. This combination gives her excellent value in longer encounters, especially when enemies apply status effects or deal heavy sustained damage. For players building a team around difficult endgame content, Marian is one of the safest characters to invest in.
Joker (Ren Amamiya) – AoE Curse Sweeper
- Role: Sweeper / AoE Curse DPS
Joker is one of the best characters for dealing with groups of enemies. His powerful Curse-based AoE attacks allow him to clear waves quickly, making him an excellent choice for Palace exploration and other multi-target encounters. His Will of Rebellion passive adds even more value when attacking debuffed enemies, granting additional turns and offensive boosts. As a result, Joker becomes particularly powerful when paired with characters that can consistently apply debuffs.
Queen (Makoto Niijima) – Single-Target Nuclear DPS
- Role: Assassin / Single-Target Nuclear Damage
Queen is built to eliminate individual targets as quickly as possible. Her Nuclear abilities provide tremendous single-target burst, making her especially valuable against bosses and other high-priority enemies. One of her biggest strengths is how little setup she needs to produce strong critical damage. When you need a character who can focus on one dangerous enemy and burn through its HP, Queen is an excellent option.
Rin (Yaoling Li) – Versatile Debuff Support
- Role: Saboteur / Debuffer & Support
Rin specializes in weakening enemies rather than dealing the majority of the team’s damage herself. Her AoE Defense debuffs make enemies considerably easier for your main attackers to bring down. She is very effective alongside powerful burst characters such as Joker, where reducing enemy defenses allows already-strong attacks to hit even harder.
Oracle (Futaba Sakura) – High-Value Utility
- Role: Navigator / Team Support
Oracle is another high-value S-Tier support who contributes through powerful team utility rather than conventional DPS. Her abilities complement teams that depend on strong offensive rotations and coordinated buffs. For players building a complete endgame squad, having a reliable Navigator can provide the additional utility needed to maximize the team’s overall performance.
A-Tier: Strong and Reliable Characters
A-Tier characters are excellent investments and can remain useful across a wide variety of situations. They may be more specialized than S-Tier picks, but their strengths make them valuable members of many successful teams.
Panther (Ann Takamaki)
- Role: Sweeper / Fire DPS
Panther is a powerful Fire sweeper who specializes in sustained damage and Burn effects. She becomes very effective in teams designed around Fire damage, where multiple characters can take advantage of the same elemental synergy. Her damage-over-time focus also gives her strong value in longer encounters.
Fox (Yusuke Kitagawa)
- Role: Assassin / Ice Physical DPS
Fox combines strong Ice-based physical damage with defensive utility. His built-in Taunt and counterattack capabilities allow him to draw enemy attention while punishing attackers. This gives him more survivability than a conventional damage dealer and can help protect more vulnerable members of the team.
Leon (Leo Kamiyama)
- Role: Strategist / Offensive Support
Leon is a powerful buffer who improves the performance of the team’s main damage dealer. His abilities increase Attack and Critical Damage, while his temporary shields provide additional protection. He’s especially valuable in teams that already have a strong carry and simply need more support to push that character’s damage to the next level.
Okyann (Kayo Tomiyama)
- Role: High-Value Support
Okyann provides useful team utility that can complement a variety of compositions. While not quite as universally valuable as the strongest S-Tier supports, she can become an excellent choice when her abilities match the team’s elemental or role requirements.
Soy (Shun Kano)
- Role: Guardian / Tank
Soy is one of the strongest dedicated frontline tanks. His natural Taunt abilities and self-sustain let him absorb damage that would otherwise overwhelm the rest of the team. That durability makes him especially useful for taking on content above your current power level, giving your damage dealers more time to finish difficult encounters.
B-Tier: Solid and Situational Picks
B-Tier characters can still contribute strongly, especially during early and mid-game progression. They’re generally more dependent on team composition or specific mechanics than higher-ranked characters.
Mona (Morgana)
- Role: Medic / Healer
Mona provides reliable healing and can revive fallen teammates. That can make Mona extremely useful in difficult encounters where recovering from a KO is important. However, other accessible healers can cover the same general role, reducing the need to prioritize Mona early if your roster already has enough healing support.
Skull (Ryuji Sakamoto)
- Role: Assassin / Physical DPS
Skull offers strong physical damage with a high-risk playstyle. His damage increases as his HP falls, meaning players willing to keep him closer to danger can get significantly more offensive output. That mechanic can be rewarding, but it also makes his performance less consistent than safer damage dealers.
Cattle (Lufel)
- Role: Medic / F2P Healer
Cattle is an excellent early-game healer and is especially valuable to players building a free-to-play roster. Being available early gives new players immediate access to dependable healing. He also works well with Panther, making him a useful component of Fire-focused teams.
How to Build a Strong P5X Team
A strong Persona 5: The Phantom X squad isn’t simply a collection of the highest-ranked characters. You need to consider role coverage, elemental synergy, and how effectively your characters’ abilities interact.
For example, pairing Joker with Rin allows Rin to weaken enemies before Joker takes advantage of their reduced defenses. Similarly, Panther and Cattle can work together effectively in Fire-oriented teams, while Leon can further amplify a powerful primary damage dealer. The best approach is to build around one or two clear win conditions and then use your remaining slots to provide healing, buffs, debuffs, or other utility.

For new players, the most important thing is to spend resources carefully. Prioritize characters that fill essential roles, build teams around elemental and role synergy, and avoid investing heavily in units you’re likely to replace. A focused roster will take you much further than spreading your resources across every character you obtain.
