Wanda Cinema Games have been making a name for themselves in recent years making mobile games based on Japanese anime and manga IPs, having previously developed and operated Saint Seiya: Legend of Justice and Tensura: King of Monsters. It recently launched yet another title of similar origins, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (天元突破紅蓮螺巖) in the Taiwan region.
Based on the manga and anime series of the same name, this was a classic mecha series which aired in 2007 and has remained in my memories since then, hoping for a sequel whenever its name was brought up. However, this collectible mobile RPG version is anything but memorable, relying solely on its nostalgic factors instead of having any interesting gameplay mechanics. Evolution was a key element in the source material, but here each mecha form is a unit by itself instead. The game won’t likely launch outside of Asia.
