Time Defenders launched worldwide a couple of days back, and we finally found time to give the game a go. In case you missed our previous articles, Time Defenders is developed by the Japanese branch of Korean developer Vespa, creators of King’s Raid. The company is facing some financial issues now, but that is not a topic for this gameplay quick look. Our first impression of Time Defenders are along the line of Closers, Soul Worker, Counter:Side and Arknights having a baby together… Ok that does not sound right. But you get the idea.
There are definitely long cutscenes and voiceovers, perhaps hours of them, which most players might skip as the story is mainly about an alien invasion from other realms. Time Defenders is officially described by Vespa as a “new type of Tower Defense” and also a “Futuristic Strategy RPG,” where players must place characters, each with unique abilities, into an accommodating spot. Similar to Arknights, players cannot place characters freely. Vespa is obviously trying to offer gamers an upgraded version of Arknights, and we shall see if that works.
