First announced in September 2021, HIT 2 is a MMORPG sequel to the action RPG title, HIT (Heroes of Incredible Tales) currently in development by the same team at NAT Games, a subsidiary of Nexon. Other than a switch in genre to a full-fledge MMORPG using Unreal Engine 4, there were not many details about the game previously other than having massive PVP battles. Here are some summarized details which the Korean media had with HIT 2’s development team. Read on!
• The official title for the game is HIT 2. Even though the genre has changed, the core feature is still tied to “action.”
• There were ideas about giving HIT 2 a sub-title, such as “HIT 2: Multi-hit”, but none of the suggestions worked. Hence, the team decided to just stick with HIT 2 having confidence in “HIT” as an IP.
• The development team had some regrets about the original HIT not being able to fulfil its potential and not being able to showcase a full worldview due to it being a stage-based game. HIT 2, as a MMORPG, will be able to display what the team had always envisioned for the IP including a long-term service plan.
• XH Studio, the development team of HIT 2, is an internal team at NAT Games comprising of mostly former staff who worked on the original HIT. It was formed after the first game’s service was terminated. XH actually stands for “Xtreme Hit.”
• The team claims that what makes HIT 2 stands out will be its “service-oriented” design, referencing how good mobile MMORPG titles in the saturated market do well because of good service, communications with players, and not making promises that cannot be kept.
• Through the battle systems, NAT Games aim to imprint is unique identity on HIT 2 and make the game stand out and recognizable from the crowd.
• There is still auto-combat in HIT 2, but the team is making it “cooler” than other games when looking at the screen, with manual gameplay having better advantages and rewards.
• HIT 2 takes place 10 years after the original after the goddess Eda has left. In a godless world, players must cooperate with each other, start conflicts, struggle through the chaos and darkness which plagues the lands.
• Players will see many familiar characters and NPCs from the original HIT game making their return in HIT 2.
• The current end content for HIT 2 is PVP, and siege warfare is the final mode where “thousands” of players can take part in a massive PVP battle. This feature will be available at launch instead of being a future update.
• The guild leader of the winning guild in siege warfare will become the land’s king, not just in name but as a literal king who is able to set certain rules affecting all players. This is part of the concept where the development team passes the “steering wheel” to the players. The slogan used is “Be The King, Rule The World.”
• For example, if the server has too much PK going on, the king is able to adjust the PK penalties. A democratic system is also being considered internally. When many players gather to make a decision, the decision is reflected on the server. This player governance system is still under development.
• 6 classes are planned for HIT 2’s launch, and not all classes are PVP-oriented. However, it does not mean that a PVE-centric class cannot defeat a PVP-centric class, since controls are key as well during battles.
• The development team also took note of the various community incidents which took place in past months, especially when players rent trucks with giant neon signs to protest against game developers in front of their buildings (Gravity was in the news for this over Ragnarok Online). NAT Games acknowledged that the players wouldn’t have done it without having affection for the games, and they could had simply deleted the game. NAT Games says that while sales are important, having a good game which players love will naturally increase sales.
• NAT Games acknowledged that when players first enter HIT 2, the first impression may be that the game is already feeling very familiar. While it is true that the team wants to approach users with great gameplay and great service, that doesn’t mean that HIT 2 is a completely new game that hasn’t been played before.
• What is clear is that Hit 2 has improved a lot over existing games. It is difficult to disclose it at this time, but the communication method, business model, and game systems are very different. In particular, changing the system in the server in real-time after each siege warfare will be a new experience in mobile MMORPGs.
• HIT 2 is a MMORPG title which NAT Games has plans for over the course of 5 to 10 years, and if players are disappointed in the current MMORPG games which they are playing, they are encouraged to give HIT 2 a try when it is ready and give the development team their honest evaluations.
