剑侠情缘R is an upcoming mobile MMORPG launching soon in Singapore and Malaysia (in Simplified Chinese) by publisher VNGGames. As we have covered previously, the 剑侠情缘 franchise started over 20 years ago as the first digital RPG launched in China. Having reached the No.1 download and grossing spots in Vietnam, MMO Culture had a quick chat with VNGGames on their aspirations for 剑侠情缘R. Open Beta begins on January 5, 2021!
Q: How did VNGGames come across 剑侠情缘R and identify it as potential success for the region?
A: 剑侠情缘R is an “ordered” mobile game that we have worked with Seasun Games since 2020. Initially, VNGGames proposed to Seasun Games to create a truly Wuxia theme mobile game “for Vietnamese gamers”. But not long after that, we see that the X & Y generations in Asia share their love for Wuxia novels and dramas, so why don’t we make a mobile game for them to play together.
Besides, we believe that the JX series also has its name carved in many hearts of players across Asia. So, we hope that Jian Xia Qing Yuan R 剑侠情缘R can bring back their memories in the form of a brand-new mobile MMORPG game, which they can play anywhere and anytime. Moreover, this game already had its first success in Viet Nam, China and Taiwan. So, we have more and more confident to present 剑侠情缘R to the region now.
Q: One of the first features that players will notice will probably be the retro graphics which is reminiscent of the 90s. Are there any concerns that 剑侠情缘R will not stand out visually when compared to all the high-graphics 3D games being launched?
A: The retro graphics of the original 90s version is truly quite “weird” in this modern world. However, it is also one of the key points we believe will attract the players from both older generations and young players.
To X and Y generations, the 2D retro visuals can trigger their memories from their youth; and to younger players – the more curious and more flexible generations, this style can bring a brand-new experience from them to try apart from those similar 3D games.
Q: There are few games which provide players with 10 classes. Will all 10 of them be available right from the beginning of the game?
A: Yes, all 10 of classes will be available right from the first version of 剑侠情缘R in Singapore and Malaysia. This is also the 10 classic classes from the original game.
Q: Are these 10 classes still identified by the holy trinity of DPS, Tank, and Support? If so, what makes these classes unique on the battlefield?
A: Similar to the original version, 10 classes of 剑侠情缘R are divided into 5 elements – the Wuxing system: Jin/Metal – Mu/Wood – Shui/Water – Huo/Fire – Tu/Earth. Some of them do have specific skills or advantages that can define them as DPS, Tank, or Support.
However, those skills are just the signatures we want to preserve from the real martial arts organizations. Players are flexible to build their characters based on their preferences along with utilizing the class’s skillset to be stronger.
Q: With 10 playable classes, balancing is always an issue. Will certain classes face the fate of being left behind and not many players choosing them?
A: There is no strongest class among those 10, because of the Wuxing system. They have both their weaker and stronger opponents on the battlefield based on which Wuxing element they are in. This feature makes 剑侠情缘R more interesting to explore because you can’t just overpower anyone. So, just feel free to choose your character and build it the way you think it works.
Q: Will the classic 5 elements (Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth) play any important role in 剑侠情缘R？
A: As briefly mentioned above, the Wuxing system is one of the famous features of the JX series. It has an important role to keep the balance between all players. They are applied not only in the classes, but also on equipment. So, players need to make the most out of the Wuxing system, not just use anything they have.
In case you get the items, which is not useful for your class or your strategy, you can trade it with other players through the in-game free trading system.
Q: What kind of PVE content can players expect in 剑侠情缘R? Are there open world bosses or boss raids available?
A: For PVE activities, after level 10, in addition to tasks, you can also open the activity page on the main interface. Single-player activities include daily answering questions, teacher missions, finding dragon veins, tribute collection, darts, guild passing, and hero towers.
Team activities include Killer Wanted, Time Challenge, Sword Tomb Labyrinth, Five Elements Array, Chang-ge Mountain Villa, Fenglingdu, guild Roasting, Siege etc. There are three types of bosses in JXQYR: Wild BOSS, Golden BOSS, and World BOSS. For the first two BOSS, you can also be single-player or teamed up.
During the time the boss appears, entering the map will automatically switch to the PK mode. Please pay attention! The last world BOSS must enter the gang to participate. BOSS will provide some special rewards to the young heroes, don’t miss it.
Q: How regularly will this Jin-Song PVP battle take place? And what rewards can players expect to obtain?
A: Once per day at a specific time. Main rewards will be Gold treasure chest, silver treasure chest, experience etc.
Q: Are there other systems such as Master and Disciple or marriage? What are the benefits for taking part in them?
A: We do have the Master and Disciple system. It is also one of the interesting features of this game.
Q: One of the unique selling points of 剑侠情缘R is the open trade system. Many games, especially mobile titles, restrict this to prevent illegal transactions. Will 剑侠情缘R face this issue if players are allowed to trade freely among themselves?
A: The free trading system is always one of the most favorite features in the JX series. That’s why we want to keep it to preserve its originality. However, there will surely be some optimizations to keep it balanced among the players.
Q: Are there any offline or idle functions found in 剑侠情缘R?
A: Yes. There are rewards to obtain for idle function that are found in 剑侠情缘R.
