The last time we posted about The Great Merchant M was back in 2019, so let’s have a quick recap. The Great Merchant, also known as Gersang Online, was a PC MMO which launched back in 2002. In fact, the English server is still playable now! The core game is all about conflicts between countries, manipulating the economy through trading of goods, hiring of mercenaries (130 mentioned) for combat, and many more general MMO features such as PVE grinding and PVP. And yes, the mobile version is coming… soon.
The Great Merchant M is in development by Korean studio RPG Republic, and earlier today it was announced that Com2uS will be the global publisher of the game, including South Korea, although no launch schedule was announced. Com2uS announced it will implement the blockchain technology into the game, where various economic functions such as obtaining items through trade are the core.
The strategy is to enter the global P2E (Play to Earn) market by adding a blockchain-based economic system that allows players to own goods acquired through gameplay. There is also a feature where player actions will “change history,” as seen in the key art featuring a more modern setting. That has yet to be revealed in detail. Stay tuned for more updates on The Great Merchant M!
