MIR4 launched almost a month ago globally, with developer Wemade keen on promoting its idea of “K-Fantasy” to the gaming community. Most recently, however, MIR4 was in the news due to how players can earn some money from the cryptocurrency feature, Draco, not due to how the game was. While I am definitely late to the party, here are my few cents on the game.
Visually, MIR4 looks awesome on the Steam PC version with Unreal Engine 4 doing what it does best. The environment looks vibrant, the skill effects flashy… but that is about it. I do not appreciate the fact that MIR4 pushes a chain of “kill X monsters” quests to players almost right from the get go instead of previewing some high level features using story telling. Due to the game being on PC as well, there are way more gold seller spams and gold seller bots running around PVE areas. Do players really buy currency from an auto-combat enabled game? Hmn…
I see MIR4 as a wasted potential, mainly because it is one of the, if not the first, Korean MMORPG to fully support cross-platform on both PC and mobile for the global market. But seemingly little effort was put into post-launch maintenance with all the spams and lackluster advertising. According to reports, MIR4 earned about USD 600,000 in revenue for the month of August, which is a great number since the launch happened just on August 26.
