There is a new game titled Project: 1024 which entered Closed Beta in Taiwan recently, and I was urged to give it a try. To provide more background, the developer Augustus Games is actually an internal team under a big China-based games company (which I am not sure if I should reveal) with massive global experience. Knowing that, and the art looks kind of awesome, I dived into Project: 1024 to give it a shot.
Project: 1024 is a turn-based character collection RPG with a cool sci-fi setting, and the anime-style artwork and 3D models definitely stole the show. There are many strategic elements as well, such as skill combos, which you can see in the gameplay video above. My main complaint revolves around the gorgeous 3D models, which would have worked so much better in a more action-oriented game, rather than standing still waiting to move…
While this is definitely just a test to gather feedback from the Taiwanese community, I doubt any core systems such as combat will be changed. I strongly feel that this current system really does no justice to all the painstakingly rendered characters and monsters in Project: 1024. Stay tuned to find out if the game will get an official launch, which should still be some time away!
