Nexon today announced that it will increase its investment in Embark Studios following the initial investment made in November 2018. Nexon will now acquire an additional 32.8% of the outstanding shares of the studio, increasing its total shares to 66.1%. With no games yet launched, Embark Studios hence become a consolidated subsidiary of Nexon Group.
Founded by Patrick Söderlund, a former EA executive, Embark Studios is touted as a technology driven studio on a path to create the next-generation of living online worlds. In addition, the studio is currently developing its first multiplayer game building on “their proven experience creating beloved global franchises.” It seems that Embark’s debut project is being crafted using Unreal Engine 4. This investment is part of Nexon’s Western growth strategy, which has so far not been successful with examples such as LawBreakers.
