Aura Kingdom R is the second mobile MMORPG to be based on the popular PC online game, Aura Kingdom. The franchise is developed by Taiwanese studio X-Legend Entertainment, which had several global acclaimed PC titles. However, the transition to mobile games wasn’t as smooth, as it currently doesn’t have any mobile games which is a hit outside of Taiwan. Aura Kingdom R recently launched in Taiwan, and I decided to take a quick look at the game.
Features which are found in the PC version of Aura Kingdom are mostly present, including Eidolons, costumes, dungeons, story instances, marriage, housing, world bosses, mounts, and the multi-weapon system. Players start off with 3 of 10 weapons, before able to choose a 2nd one at level 43. Spending around USD 50 on rolling new Eidolons, I easily got to around level 40 in a few hours, partially boosted by the generous amount of quest EXP.
But before getting too positive, I found out that the max level is around 82, since that where the last jewel slot on equipment opens. The content might not be there yet, but X-Legend has certainly planned for it. Other than Eidolons, there is a “buddy” system where players collect NPC cards and upgrade them for passive boosts. They can be obtained from gacha, which I feel is another money pit to lure players to continuously boost that attack power.
Being a loyal player of Aura Kingdom on the PC for several months back then, I took to Aura Kingdom R really easily. The game does not introduce anything new, and I still hate the crowded user interface design, similar to the previous Aura Kingdom mobile game. While I understand that this is to accommodate the hundreds of features and game modes, the game could certainly not try so hard to have so much content at launch. It is unknown if Aura Kingdom R will launch globally, but the first one is still updated regularly by X-Legend.
