Evony: The King’s Return Resource Optimization Guide

Every upgrade, every troop batch, and every healed soldier in Evony runs on resources. This Evony: The King’s Return resource guide breaks down the generals, gear, and research that actually move your income. You will learn which gathering generals earn a permanent roster spot. You will also learn how to stack buffs and avoid wasted marches. The systems below reward planning over grinding, so a few smart swaps can double your daily haul.

How Resources Work in Evony?

Evony uses four core resources, commonly shortened to RSS by the community: food, lumber, stone, and ore. Gems sit in a separate category. They are sometimes counted as a resource and sometimes excluded, depending on the event.

Food, lumber, stone, and ore pay for buildings, troop training, and troop healing. Siege machines are the exception, since repairs cost gems instead.

You have three income streams:

  • In-city production. Farms, sawmills, quarries, and mines tick constantly. Output is passive but slow.
  • World map gathering. You send marches to resource tiles. This is where the real volume comes from.
  • Events, monsters, and items. Boxes, quests, and monster kills fill gaps between the other two.

Most players underrate gathering early. That is the biggest single mistake in the mid-game.

Why Gathering Resources Beats Passive Production?

Your city buildings produce a fixed hourly trickle. Meanwhile, a single high-level tile can return millions in one trip.

Higher-level tiles hold more resources and pay out faster. Tile levels scale with map position, so tiles near the throne run hotter. Open the world map and enable the Resources filter to see where the good ones sit.

Alliance resource tiles inside your hive add another layer. Alliance buffs usually make them faster than open-map tiles, so gather at home when you can.

Best Gathering Generals in Evony

Gathering generals split into three roles: extra resources, gathering speed, and troop load. The strongest picks cover more than one.

General Tier Core Gathering Skill Best Role
Queen Jindeok Epic Historic +40% extra resources from world map spots, +20% from alliance spots Endgame all-rounder
Amir Timur Epic Historic +100% troop load Fewer troops, bigger hauls
Gaius Marius Historic +30% ore speed, +15% lumber and stone speed Ore and stone specialist
Constance I Historic +20% extra resources, +20% troop load Best early substitute
Shimazu Yoshihiro Historic +30% extra food from farms, +10% gathering speed Food farming
Attila Historic +75% troop load Budget load carrier
Princess Lucy Historic +15% gathering speed Entry-level filler

Queen Jindeok — The Endgame Target

Jindeok’s Harvest Song skill returns an extra 40% from world map spots and an extra 20% from alliance spots. No other general matches that raw yield bonus.

Her ascension stars stack on top of that. Across five stars, they add 40% gathering speed and 50% troop load. You also gain 30% march speed and 10% march size capacity.

Her max-level specialties push further. Jungle adds 10% gathering speed, and Queen of Silla adds another 20% extra resources from gathering.

The long-term goal for serious farmers is five or six Jindeoks running simultaneously. That is expensive, so treat it as a season-long project rather than a week-one plan.

Amir Timur — Start Loading Troops Without Compromise

Timur’s King of Destruction skill doubles troop load outright. His fifth star also adds 15% extra resources and 10% gathering speed.

His Battle of the Terek River specialty is the real prize. It grants 50% all troops load and 26% march speed at max level.

Load bonuses do not increase resources gathered per hour. They increase how long a march can stay before filling up. That means fewer round trips and less babysitting, which matters most while you sleep.

Gaius Marius — The Ore Fix

Ore becomes the bottleneck resource in the late game. Keep upgrades past K31 start demanding far more ore than anything else. By K35, the gap runs into hundreds of millions.

Marius answers that directly with 30% ore gathering speed plus 15% for lumber and stone. His Smelting specialty adds another 20% ore speed, and Weight Loading adds 40% all troops load.

If your build queue keeps stalling on ore, he is worth prioritising over a generic speed general.

Constance I — The Early Game Workhorse

Constance returns an extra 20% from world map spots and adds 20% troop load. She does both jobs a beginner needs, and she appears in the tavern.

Her Overgrowth specialty adds 20% to lumber gathering from outside-city spots. Jungle adds another 10% gathering speed.

She will not out-earn Jindeok. She will, however, carry your first several weeks without draining your gem stock.

Shimazu Yoshihiro — Food Specialist

Shimazu brings back an extra 30% from farms and adds 10% general gathering speed. His Bumper Harvest specialty stacks another 20% food bonus.

Food matters more than newer players expect. Large armies eat constantly, and troop upkeep can drain a warehouse overnight.

Attila and Princess Lucy — The Filler Picks

Attila’s Whip of Gods adds 75% troop load, and his Jungle specialty adds 10% gathering speed. He is a fine stand-in until Timur arrives.

Lucy adds a flat 15% gathering speed. Once Jindeok joins your roster, Lucy drops down the order.

Neither deserves heavy gold or experience investment. Level them enough to be useful, then stop.

Building an Efficient Gathering March for Resource Gathering

A gathering march is a stack of multipliers. Miss one, and you lose yield for the whole trip.

Main General and Assistant

The main general’s skill drives your gathering buffs. Assistant slots help, but some buffs only fire on the main general.

One important limit: equipping the Champion set on both main and assistant does not double the extra-resource bonus. Plan around that instead of wasting a slot.

Troop Selection

Troop load decides how much a march carries. Load is not tied to generals alone, so troop counts and gear both matter.

  • Light cavalry move fastest, which suits distant, low-level tiles.
  • Siege and ranged units carry more, which suits large hauls close to home.
  • Ground troops sit in the middle and work as a default choice.

Send marches out together and collect them together. Staggered returns waste more time than most players realise.

Monarch Gear and the Swap Trick

Monarch gear is the most underused gathering lever in the game. Four crystals map to four resources:

Crystal Boosts
Light Crystal Food gathering speed
Wood Crystal Lumber gathering speed
Thunder Crystal Stone gathering speed
Golden Crystal Ore gathering speed

Equip the correct crystal before your march reaches the tile. If you swap gear again before arrival, the buff does not apply.

The Loyalty Horn raises all troops’ load, which increases what each march carries. Higher horn levels give bigger gains.

Here is the swap sequence that experienced players use:

  1. Equip march speed gear before departure.
  2. Switch to the resource-specific crystal before arrival.
  3. Keep the crystal and Loyalty Horn equipped for the whole gathering window.

Gear presets make this manageable. Build one preset per resource so swaps take seconds, not minutes.

Resources for Research, Talents, and City Buffs

Generals are only part of the equation. These systems apply to every march you send.

  • Gathering research. Prioritise gathering research over production research. The yield difference is significant.
  • Alliance research. Alliance-tier research raises the bonus on alliance resource tiles.
  • Gathering Boost talent. This unlocks at Monarch Level 26. It upgrades four times for an extra 20% gathering bonus from resource spots.
  • City buffs. Tap your Keep, open City Buff, and activate the all-resource gathering option before a farming session.

Talent resets cost 2,000 gems, so plan your tree before committing.

Subordinate Cities and Culture

Subordinate cities unlock at Keep Level 11. Culture choice changes which buffs you receive, and you can hold up to nine.

Culture Resource-Relevant Buff
Korea Warehouse capacity and extra resources from gathering
China Resource production and training speed
America Subordinate city gold production and research speed
Japan Research factory material production speed

Korea is the gathering culture. Bonuses stack when you hold multiple Korean cities, and higher rarity means stronger buffs.

China is the production culture. Run China if you want stronger passive city output instead.

You can swap cultures as your priorities shift. Many players run development cultures early, then pivot toward combat later.

Mayor Stats Matter

A mayor’s Politics stat raises construction speed and gold production in that city. Leadership raises troop training speed.

Cultivate your mayor toward 900 Leadership and 900 Politics. Hitting both thresholds activates the subordinate city survival buff.

Optimising In-City Production

Passive production still matters, especially for daily production events. Some recurring quests ask for 50 million resources produced, and the hardest tier asks for 150 million within two days.

Building Layout

Balance your farms, sawmills, quarries, and mines against your actual costs. Upgrade costs shift heavily toward stone and ore at higher keep levels.

Food is the trap. If troop upkeep already eats your stockpile, extra farms deliver less value than extra quarries or mines.

Speedups Are Free Output

The Black Market regularly stocks 24 Hour Speedups for farms, sawmills, quarries, and mines. Each resource type has its own version.

Collect them on sight. Three of the same type combine into an Adv 8 Hour Speedup, which suits players who log in frequently.

Warehouse and Protection

Your warehouse protects a fixed amount from raids and from troop upkeep. Check the protection values on the warehouse detail screen.

Two habits follow from that:

  • Do not open resource boxes until you have a purchase planned. Unprotected resources are vulnerable.
  • Move surplus into the Alliance Warehouse, which cannot be attacked directly.

One caution on the alliance option. If the Alliance City falls, stored resources return to your unprotected balance.

Conclusion

Resource optimisation in Evony is a stacking exercise, not a grind. Your general provides the base multiplier, and gear, research, talents, and culture multiply it further.

Start with Constance I and Princess Lucy while you build your economy. Add Gaius Marius when ore becomes your bottleneck, then work toward Queen Jindeok as your long-term anchor. Amir Timur and Attila handle load duty so your marches stay out longer.
