Nexon recently announced the formation of its new subsidiary, Nexon Block Corporation, to focus everything related to blockchain technology. Nexon previously talked about its blockchain ambitions earlier this year, but it is only now that a formal subsidiary was confirmed. The first big project is MapleStory Universe, first revealed back in June 2022. This would comprise of 4 main components, including:
1. MapleStory N – The PC version of MapleStory with blockchain technology
2. MapleStory N Mobile – The mobile version of MapleStory with blockchain technology
3. Mode N – A blockchain game production sandbox platform
4. MapleStory N SDK – Used for creation of other blockchain apps
Back in June during the annual Nexon Developer Conference, the now-CEO of Nexon Block Company, Mr Kang, emphasized that he did not see blockchain games being similar to Play To Earn (P2E) games, claiming that blockchain technology would open up a new ecosystem and new possibilities. According to a Nexon representative, MapleStory Universe is the first service from Nexon related to its Web3 efforts and blockchain development.
