According to new reports from South Korea, developer NCSOFT has taken the drastic measure of blocking employees who worked too many hours from entering the office. This is known as the “Gate Off” protocol, and the maximum time an employee can work is 208 hours a month. If the duration is exceeded, the electronic gates on the ground floor will detect the employee pass and deny them access. Of course, it is a crucial period now due to COVID-19 and many NCSOFT employees in South Korea are actually working from home.
The company is taking this period to begin testing the system now and gather feedback from employees with an aim to refine the details for the future. If you did not know, there were a string of cases of employees in the gaming industry committing suicide due to being overworked, and the government had to stepped in. Rival Netmarble was the first to launch a strict campaign to kick employees out of the office back in 2018.
