Mavericks: Proving Grounds, an ambitious online shooter first revealed in 2017, has been canceled by its developer Automaton Games. Touting support for 1,000 players in the main Proving Grounds mode and an in-development battle royale mode supporting 400 players, Automaton Games ran out of financial resources and has ceased control to insolvency practitioners since 30 July. The small notice can be seen at the bottom of this website.
Automaton Games was still hiring for new positions as late as 4 weeks ago, and a new Alpha test just started last week as well for Mavericks: Proving Grounds. Work on Project Y, a “next-generation fantasy” multi-platform game which has not been publicly shown, has stopped as well. Automaton Games did launched a Free-to-Play game before titled Deceit, which is still available on Steam. Hopefully a big company buys over all Mavericks assets!
