Built at a cost of USD 600 million, the new headquarters for China (and global) technology powerhouse, Tencent, will be ready next year in June. As the owner of Riot Games (developer of League of Legends), majority shareholder of Epic Games (developer of Unreal Engine), and proud owner of Supercell (developer of Clash of Clans), it may seem like the money spent is loose change.
Located in Shenzhen, China, Tencent hired American firm NBBJ to build the behemoth of a skyscraper. NBBJ also created the buildings of Amazon, Google, and Samsung. Employees can expect rooftop gardens, running tracks, spa centres, rock-climbing facilities, restaurants, and many more amenities. Pony Ma Huateng, founder and CEO of Tencent, apparently took an active role in the design process.
It is said that holographic guides will help people to get around the 2 massive buildings, though there is nothing solid to show now. Being a “high-tech” office building of the future, air-conditioning temperatures will also automatically adjust according to the average temperatures of each room, along with using WeChat to search for the optimal parking lot. The list goes on, and I am in awe!
