[Source] Daybreak Games was once known as Sony Online Entertainment, which made the iconic EverQuest series. EverQuest Next was announced back in 2013, with lofty ambitions of making it a real next-generation MMORPG with a player-controlled world and a full sandbox experience. However, it was confirmed today the project has been canceled and focus will shift to EverQuest and EverQuest II.
According to the interview, the decision to shutdown development of EverQuest Next “was reached recently” due to too much time “reinventing required tech.” Daybreak Games will still launch Landmark (originally part of EverQuest Next’s expanded world) later this spring, while advancing H1Z1: Just Survive, bringing DC Universe Online to Xbox One players, and launching H1Z1: King of the Kill.
