SuperData Research, well-known for its various reports and insights on the gaming industry, recently revealed a list of top earning games for the year ending 2015. Among the 3 categories (Console, PC, Mobile), League of Legends came out tops with over USD 1.6 billion in revenue (not profits), beating out games such as Grand Theft Auto V (Console and PC combined total) and Clash of Clans.
Revenue is the earnings companies get before expenses (marketing, salaries, rents, etc etc) are deducted, hence profits might be much lower seeing how companies like Machine Zone are spending several millions on marketing. Games such as CrossFire are only popular in China, while giants Nexon and NCsoft are still heavily supported by the pioneers of online games, MapleStory and Lineage 1.
