After a brief pre-Open Beta phase, developer XLGAMES announced Civilization Online will enter the official Open Beta phase on 2 December in South Korea. Based on the popular Civilization series of games created by Sid Meier, Civilization Online is the first Free-to-Play title in the franchise. Rather than being a persistent online game, each session is time-based, possibly up to a few weeks.
According to the description, players will be able to “research and develop new technologies, construct buildings and great wonders, wage war, or conduct espionage to achieve victory over other players and civilizations in a dynamically changing world.” Civilization Online has already been signed to China and Taiwan. For now, the game will remain exclusive to these non-English Asian countries.
