If you did not know, Nintendo has finally signed a deal recently with DeNA to develop mobile games based on its extensive list of characters, including Super Mario. At the 75th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, CEO Satoru Iwata claimed that the games will be “Free-to-Start”, rather than “Free-to-Play”. If players want to go beyond the free content and items, they would have to pay.
Nintendo stated that it is also not looking for whales (a small group of players paying huge money) with its mobile strategy, but rather develop games which “appeal to a wide variety of people” and “regardless of their gaming experiences and gender, and most importantly, regardless of different cultures, nationalities and languages.” The whole Q&A session, 4 pages long, can be read in full here.
