First announced back in March, an internal investigation was carried out to confirm the findings of a possible embezzlement. gumi has since released an official statement from its Japan headquarters, and will proceed to file a police report against the employee responsible. gumi rejected claims that the CEO the South Korea office is the perpetrator, but just an “employee”.
According to gumi’s report, a princely sum of around USD 319,000 was misappropriated. The employee used company credit cards for personal expenses, up to a tune of USD 218,000, and listed them as company expenses. The culprit also worked with a headhunter company to falsify records, cheating gumi out of USD 100,661, while the individual pocketed USD 16,777 out of the deal.
