This past weekend, Tencent held is annual games carnival, and it was announced that ArcheAge China will only launch in July next year. The Chinese media had a brief moment talking to representatives from XLGAMES and Tencent, and here is the translated and edited interview article.
Q: Why is there a “China version” now in the game logo? Does that mean there will be tons of localized content?
A: During localization for the China players, features such as new player guide, trade system, castle siege momentum, including player experience features have been tweaked to match the local gamers’ tastes, and we are not just casually changing the game. An example will be the naval warfare system, where the China version’s content is more plentiful and offers more freedom as the China players has higher demands.
Another example will be the castle siege, where the maps will be bigger and hold much more players, simply due to the China community being much larger than the Korea server’s. Tencent Games and XLGAMES have been communicating regularly on these aspects of the games.
Q: Launch for ArcheAge China is announced for July next year. When will Open Beta begin?
A: We will announce Open Beta (no account restriction) when the non-data wipe phase (activation code required) begins. This will depend on development progression and players’ views. We will be giving out many activation codes for the non-data wipe phase as well.
Q: The double currency system announced earlier had the gamers talking. What are your thoughts on this system?
A: We had two goals in mind, which was to make sure both China and Korean servers have the same gameplay experience, and building on this foundation, the second goal was to optimize the game for China. The double currency system is mature now, and will stable the game economy and fight against currency sellers. Using this system, the free players will be able to sell items to those richer players. We will be doing more balancing in the future for the currencies.
Q: Perhaps ArcheAge is providing too much freedom in terms of game content, and some players are still sitting on the fence. What recommendations do you have for these players?
A: We have heavily edited and localized the new player guide for ArcheAge China, and through the guide, players will get a clear sense of what content they will want to play and enjoy.
