While Blizzard Entertainment and its Chinese partner, NetEase, won a legal battle over the IP infringement of Hearthstone recently, it seems they are ready for another legal case with Snail Games. You see, Snail Games launched a new mobile game in China, and the main character is a panda.
Named as “Taichi Panda”, the iOS game was quite popular, until NetEase took offence with some of the art and model designs, which you can see in the legal document screenshot below. NetEase subsequently sent an email to Apple, requesting the app to be taken down due to IP infringement.
Snail Games launched its defense, with its art department countering with an explanation of each element found in the art pieces, detailing their origins. I personally think NetEase and Blizzard Entertainment should not have gotten into this legal case. We shall see how it pans out.
