I will not be going into details with all the features found in X.A.O.C, as you can view more details from my previous posts and the international English teaser website. An open world action MMORPG, the game’s overall theme focuses heavily on Taiwanese myths, with close ties to the Taoism religion.
First off, let us start off with the playable characters and classes. There are 2 warring factions, each coming with 2 tribes and 8 characters. Each character will be limited to a few classes, with some of the classes still not available.
Currently, the available ones are Gun Master, Martial Artist, Centiblade Samurai and Monk. All classes are able to equip up to 3 different weapon types (which unlocks as players level up), allowing quick changes in the midst of battles.
Here comes the tough part. With limited skill points, each weapon type has its own skill trees. I am not really sure if all skill trees can be maxed out, but for low levels, it is always better to focus on just one.
Next, the aesthetic designs. Crafted using an unnamed in-house engine, X.A.O.C’s visuals are pretty unique, to the point where I guess gamers will either really love it or simply hate it. The colors are usually masked with a shade of darkness, which is rather appropriate.
Temples, demons, ghosts and many more from Taiwanese and Taoism folklore can be found, and most will be a rather new sight to Western gamers.
As seen at the start of the video below, players are able to “absorb” souls of fallen enemies. and the souls can be used to replenish HP, MP, AP and stuff (top left colorful orbs).
Finally, the combat. As mentioned, X.A.O.C is an open world action combat title, which is somewhat similar to TERA. The combat is still not at Dragon Nest’s level in terms of movement, but I guess it will do. Combos, charging attacks, chained skills, you get the drift.
Overall, X.A.O.C is an “ok” game, but even as a Chinese myself, I am not digging into the overall aesthetics and background plot. It just feels weird after a few hours of gameplay. The North American server has been confirmed according to 1 of my ninjas, but I should really keep quiet about it ๐
