Launching a couple of months back to with a P2P business model, China publisher Kunlun Games announced earlier that Ragnarok Online China will go Free-to-Play on 18th July, with no cash shop system as well. Basically, a truly free game.
What is in for Kunlun Games then? A financially sound company waiting for its IPO, analysts are saying that this campaign is to massively increase its user base, while preparing for its own platform and upcoming “bigger” titles.
For the naysayers, the prior P2P months were actually doing very well. Kunlun Games has several self-developed and foreign games lineup, with the most striking being TERA China. The company is also looking to further expand its mobile and web gaming services.
