2 years after being announced, China developer Shanda Games recently announced it is shutting down the development of The King of Fighters World. The reasons given include “lack of market interest” and the game “not fitting current consumer dynamics.” Japan-based IP owner, SNK Playmore, has yet to release any official statement about the project’s demise, but it seems Shanda Games overestimated the franchise’s popularity in China.
