If you guys have followed me on my blog long enough, you would have known I really have a thing for the China MMO industry. Well, it is basically because I can speak, write and read the language compared to Korean or Japanese. Having posted about Q2 2010’s results for the China MMO industry, here is the latest information on Q3 2010.
Earning the highest will be once again the leader of the online game industry in China, Tencent, earning nearly USD 40 million. In second place, we have NetEase at nearly USD 20 million (which was visited previously), followed closely by SNDA (or Shanda Games) at nearly USD 17.5 million. To finish off the top 5, there is Perfect World at USD 10 million and ChangYou at nearly the same amount.
Here is a chart compared to Q3 2009. Tencent increased revenue by over 65%, NetEase at 65%, ChangYou by 25% and Perfect World (light blue) by over 10%. Shockingly, SNDA (in apple green) has decreased revenue by almost 15%. While no specific reason was given, media reports claim that hackers and botters are destroying SNDA’s games. However, SNDA explains that they are in the midst of an aggressive overseas expansion, with more self-developed games coming in 2011 to boost revenue.
